LSU announced Monday evening that the No. 7 jersey will be worn by wide receiver Jonathan Giles, who transferred in from Texas Tech and sat out last season.

Giles was a Biletnikoff Award finalist during the 2016 season with the Red Raiders, recording 69 receptions for 1158 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Other notable Tigers that have worn the No. 7 jersey include D.J. Chark, Leonard Fournette, Tyrann Mathieu, Patrick Peterson, Ali Highsmith, and Bert Jones

LSU fans expect a lot from number 7 and i believe this kid will provide that this year.

Hmmm. To me transfer players and first year Tigers don’t get to wear #7 unless ur last name is Fournette

Way to bring the negativity to someone who is going into the season as who the staff thinks will be our biggest playmaker.

Nothing to do with being negative don’t be so sensitive. I just think that #7 meant something stood for something different and went to proven Playmaker with Fournette being the exception. I hope Giles does great has nothing to do with him.

I would have gone with Greedy. But, I hope Giles lives up to the number and makes a legend of himself. Good luck kid, and congrats. It takes work to earn that number, and he must have put on a show for the coaches to pick him as a transfer.

Greedy will probably get it next year. Kids got a couple years left.

I like that they gave it to Giles. I know it means nothing really, but the #7 has yet to fail us ever since Highsmith wore it.

That pretty much tells me all that I wanted to know about Giles. Do Work Buddy!

Is this the WR that left done Jackson in the dust in the Texas bowl?

No, that Jakeem Grant, he tore us up. He plays for the Dolphins now.

Grant left Tre White, not Donte Jackson.

Nice when you have a quarterback like Mahomes delivering the ball

Great addition to the we corp. I was more caught up with Mahomes in that highlight reel.

That sidearm TD throw to Giles was sick

Disagree with a first year player getting number 7. Sad!

He has been on the team for an entire year. Just because you dont know your LSU football team doesnt mean you should come on Tigerdroppings and flaunt your ignorance.

Didn't Fournette get 7 his first year on the team?

Pretty impressive that a transfer who has sat out a year and is going to be playing his first season with the Tigers gets the number 7. He must be pretty damn good, can't wait to see him play.

Man I forgot all about this guy! Dude will step in right away as Chark’s replacement.

He's obviously stepping up and taking a leadership role. Didn't Trev Faulk wear #7 also?
user avatar
OzChuffnugg74 months
It may just be me, but I dislike how Trev Faulk and Ali Highsmith get forgetten with the 7 legacy. Do we win the 2007 championship without Highsmith quarterbacking the defense?

I've had him pegged as our best WR since he got to campus. Don't know how the offense will fare, but he'll be great no doubt.

To those of you complaining about a transfer wearing #7. The team voted on this. It wasn't a coaching decision. #upyours.....

I came to this thread to complain about that - didn't know this was a player-defined award. Also, in my mind I was conflating it with the '18' tradition. It's too early - need to go back to bed.

He gets a lot of yards after catch. I am excited to see that new gunslinger light him up.

This is the gayest tradition in the country. 1. Who is wearing #7 or #18? 2. Dildo stores 3. Parades
