Per LSUSports.net: ORLANDO, Fla. -- No. 17 LSU gained a 17-14 advantage with 2:02 to play in a back-and-forth 2018 Citrus Bowl before No. 14 Notre Dame completed a 55-yard touchdown to hand the Tigers a 21-17 loss on a rainy New Year's Day in Camping World Stadium.

LSU running back Derrius Guice caught two touchdown passes and rushed 21 times for 98 yards. His final touch was a reception that came up inches from the goalline and led to a short field goal that put the Tigers ahead for 35 seconds of game time.

Main LSU Problem: Failure to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Watching the re-play now. There was NO reason for LSU to lose that game. One again (as with Alabama) they CHOKED and lost a game that was very winnable.

I'd save this one. LSU fought like hell.

Yes, they did. Especially Etling and Guise. But it's just too painful to watch.

One more LSU game that I did not "save until I erase". It will stay on "keep until space needed".

Face it...Coach O is a good old South Louisiana boy, but he is anything but a top-drawer coach like Nick Saban.

That was an abomination of a game. I feel bad for Guise. He is a warrior but the coaching was pathetic.

Deserved the win. Not the coaches’ faults. That’s why our new kicker is worth the scholarship.

You've got to make those two chip shot field goals...have to..ND kicked two long ones...that's what a quality kicker does

I typically believe that it's dumb to blame kickers for losses, as they usually are just a symptom of a larger problem. After all, they're only in the game kicking for points if the offense can't put the ball in the end zone. That being said, damn. These weren't mid-range to long kicks with a little too much English on them. These were kicks the average high school kicker who toes the ball could make. And it looked like there were hurricane-force winds blowing the balls away from the uprights immediately upon liftoff. I've just never seen a more spineless pair of kickers with group yips and urine running down their legs.

It sucked they loss, yes but they played their hearts out. Guice didn't have to play, but did and played like a beast. Even Etling, who IMO stinks, played with passion. Sucked they couldn't get it done and yes that 4th down call was BS but also, what about the field goals missed? That cost us the game. We should have won but didn't. But I am very proud of the Tigers. They wanted to win, they played to win, and unfortunately it didn't happen.

Well, it’s the day after. I’v reflected. But nothing’s changed. O’s gutless 4th down call, Aranda’s decision to only rush 3 linemen on the game winning drive, and Canada’s poor play calling throughout the game, along with the anticipated poor special teams play, was simply too much to overcome. I hope O learns from his mistakes and makes bolder decisions (like Sean Payton) in the future. Aranda gets a pass, as he was without 3 Key players(no pun intended), which likely influenced his decision, and Canada is simply overrated and needs to move on. As does Donte Jackson! This guy gets beat deep every game, cannot tackle, and is constantly out of position. Delpit was late arriving with help all day, but I’m not worried about him. He will be a star. Etling and Guice were fabulous! It’s ashamed they weren’t given the chance to win it! It’s gonna be a long offseason!

Worst fans ever!! No kick and you would have bitched. Freshmen on D played great. ND made an awesome play. DEAL WITH IT

How did the Lau D play great. What game was that? What season? Lau played horrible defense vs ND last few times they played one another from what I saw. You could have played some 50 year old retirees that would have played better.

Btw, this is why it’s hard to be a HC. O didn’t lose this game for us. Get your panties out a wad, let’s check with recruiting and spring training when it gets here, and let’s move forward with the clear upward trend (barring Canada leaving and being replaced with someone inferior).

Coaches did a good today outside of Aranda in the end. Christ we need a kicker. Thank the lord O got one! A bull shite game which really was a win for us, and most importantly one which I think recruits recognize as a game we controlled and we were screwed over by kickers with.

Playing with heart is the norm for both. But Etling's Hearst doesn't make up for his lack of skills as a QB. Just sayin.
