Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports
During SEC Media Days on Tuesday, Georiga head coach Kirby Smart was asked about LSU transfer Arik Gilbert. Here's what he had to say:
quote:

Q. In the past, you've said you only want to use the transfer portal on a need basis, so what needs do the three guys that you did bring in -- Arik Gilbert, Tykee Smith, and Derion Kendrick -- help fill?

KIRBY SMART: With Arik, anytime you can get a skill player that can do things with the ball, you're always looking to be dynamic. You look at teams that have won the National Championship recently, they're most dynamic on offense and at the skill positions.

Wish him well but if I had to wager on it, he'll be a massive disappointment

Gilbert wants to play WR. Only problem with that is Gilbert runs a 4.73. As a TE when you are covered by a LB he might get by with that but as a WR he will be covered by the Stingleys & Eli Ricks of the world.

Arika is a cancer. We have just sabotaged Georgia.

It’s true. Our team looked so much more like a team without that dude. Kirby is a mouthbreather with no concept of team camaraderie or character though so this is par for the course for him

It's like when Germany sent Lenin to Russia late in WW1.

I can't never respect a Quitter. We'll see when Georgia start losing.

They will be really really good this year, unfortunately.

The UGA Bulldogs have been playing dead since 1980. I don’t see this year being any different.

So you won’t ever respect Chase? Marshall? Fournette? Burrow?

Kirby's answer is pretty clever, he is saying LSU did the same with Burrow so stop talking about it.

Not clever at all. Joe had already graduated from Ohio State and transferred to LSU to get his masters.

The guy is a front runner. He signed with LSU because we won the NC. When it got hard (with losses), he quit. He thought he'd go to UF and be the next Kyle Pitts, but then he saw who is QB would be and realized that would be too hard so he quit. Then he thought, well, UGA signs 5*s all day long! They must be good. Wait till he figures out Kirby couldn't win with the 85 Bears and UGA ain't won shite since Hershel!

Technically he signed with LSU before we won the NC
