Four LSU underclassmen have requested evaluation grades from the NFL Draft College Advisory Committee to decide whether or not they should go pro or return to Baton Rouge for their senior seasons.

Those players are offensive linemen Toby Weathersby, Garrett Brumfield, Will Clapp, and cornerback Donte Jackson.

All four players are currently awaiting a response and there could be more that have already requested Draft grades. Per The Advocate:
quote:

Grades are expected back in the next week. Center Will Clapp, guard Garrett Brumfield and tackle Toby Weathersby, all 2017 starters and juniors, joined Jackson in requesting grades. Other players likely also requested grades, but they were not present at interviews on Wednesday.

Well you can't hate on kids jumping at the chance to go to the NFL if giving the opportunity that is what most of these kids play college ball for. I would love for C Will Clapp, OT Toby Weathersby and OG Garrett Brumfield to come back that would be special, our starting five back for another run. AS for as CB Donte Jackson goes he's probably going to get a second round grade if that's enough for him to go then good luck to him I personally think he should stay but that's just me. If Jackson stay or go our secondary will be fine with the guys we got coming back and the projected 2018 signees CB Patrick Surtain, DB Kelvin Joseph, DB Ar'Darius Washington and or CB Anthony Cook that's just DBU being DBU. But breaking in a new QB and a new running game it's very important that the OL stay intact so we can finally have that special season we been waiting on for awhile. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!PURPLEREIGN?????????

In my humble opinion, if you're not a guaranteed first rounder or a high second rounder, you should come back and play NCAA football.

Tolliver isn’t even asking for an evaluation?

I think Clapp will get 2nd rd. grade and probably leave. Brumfield and Jackson still need to work on some things and Weathersby struggled with injuries. I think they will be Return to school grades with a possible exception of Jackson, strictly for his speed and Athleticism.

Donte has the speed but not the NFL caliber skills as starting. He needs more interception hands. Love him though. GEAUX TIGERS!!!

I agree with you. He has blazing speed, but his coverage skills leaves much to be desired. He should stay and work on his coverage skills. if he does leave, I wish him the best, but if he goes, he'll get beat early and often. I think he could develop into a highly productive DB at the next level. The problem is, coaches aren't looking for DBs to groom and develop. It's a "what have you done for me lately" league. If he isn't producing right away, he might find himself out of the league before he can develop into the DB (I think) he can be. Just my opinion...

I could be way off here, but I seem to recall that for some strange reason there is a fairly low cap on the number of juniors per team that can request a draft evaluation. For some reason 5-6 seems to stand out to me.

“Five underclassmen per program will be allowed to participate in their schools’ pro days next spring.” “If a team has more than five underclassmen who want the extra eyeballs, it can apply for more slots, "subject to the determination of the NFL that the players are legitimate draft prospects," says a joint release from the league and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) on Monday. Two years ago, the NFL limited schools to five committee "draft grade" applications per team, with a similar application process to get more if there's enough talent to demand it.”

I hope at least 2 of those OL come back. There’s no way to replenish the OL at the rate we’ve been losing them to one thing or another.

Pretty simple, come back Donte (like White did) and further develop into a 1st rounder! Dominate next year on a dominant LSU DEF.

I always feel LSU players who finish do better financially in NFL situations as well as NFL on field talent development.

You can feel whatever you like but the players who leave early or even get kicked out make more than those who stay and graduate

I really like the grade thing. Is it mandatory or is this voluntary?

Voluntary. Unlike NCAA Basketball, football players can't declare for the draft and then withdraw. So they request these grades to see if they want to declare or not.
