LSU senior running back has lost some weight and is one of the most improved players of spring practice, according to head coach Ed Orgeron.

Williams is down to 229-pounds and is running well, Orgeron says.

He was 233. Now 229. If he's all of a sudden looking like a star in practice, it ain't because of a 4 lb weight loss.

with 1.3 ypc, the sky is the limit for improvement - 1.7?

Weighing 2% more than he does now wasn't his problem. It was his vision. If a hole was closed, he would still barrel into it where as the Heisman contender backs would cut back inside or outside and gain more yardage.

At this level of athletics 2% improvement is huge

hope he's gonna have the same type of career as spencer ware. i kinda put them in the same box. Ware was an excellent pass blocker in college and it really gave him the time he needed on a roster to shine in the pros. hopefully DW can do something similar

Has blanky7384837 showed up to say that he needs to be precisely 216.83 lbs for optimal success yet?

229 is ideal for him. Has really lean muscle mass.

You sure he doesn't need to be at 228.25?

Pretty sure, its mainly lean muscle that matters not weight

Good news... if he could get down to 220 going into the BYU game that would be better.

How the hell do you know what weight is best for him to play at?

You always want a guy who waited his turn to do well when the time comes. Now is no different. Hope you light up this year, 28!

Could see him having a kenny hilliard type career. Start off hot, struggle to get PT for a couple years, then finish strong for his senior year.

Great to hear. I feel that Williams has played fairly well in his limited playing time during his LSU career. He seems like the kind of back that can wear down a defense with more carries. He & Guice have different styles but should complement each other well.

This is great news, We need great depth behind Guice. William runs well but has always lacked that burst in the open field, maybe he'll have it with less weight this fall.

People forget he was a 4-star type with much promise. From what we have seen, he has been a model 'team' player behind LF doing his job, accepting his role. Time to shine!

229 is still a big RB. Would be great if he breaks out this year.
