During his Monday press conference, head coach Ed Orgeron talked about the defensive struggles from the Missouri loss and how they plan on fixing it going forward.

The big takeaway was that Orgeron wants to simplify the defense and make sure the players understand it in practice and execute it during the game.
quote:

"On defense, not a very good performance. We had a long meeting yesterday about communication, about missed singles, about all kinds of stuff. And I just put it on the coaches. That's all that is. I'm not going to put it on the players. We gotta execute better, but we gotta practice better. We gotta simplify. I told both Steve and Bo to simplify, make sure that our players can do it. I don't care if we have to play one defense and one coverage; play it, play it right, do whatever we need to do, put our athletes in a good position and let them make plays. I know the players are hurting today. I'm going to talk to them today, and we're going to get it fixed."

"We're definitely going to simplify it. There's no question about that. I'm going to make sure that any defenses called, Bo's going to call the defense. I'm going to make sure any one that's called that we run it right all week and our guys understand it. If we don't understand it, we're not running it."

Wasn't the change to Pelini already "simplifying" it??

Yea. Plus, we weren't running particularly complicated stuff Saturday. Just guys got lost and didn't pick up their assignments.

Great, sounds like Les Miles on Defense. Beats the less talented teams and not the others. O better fix this fast.

@33inNC But in this case, we’re not even beating the less talented teams!

I didn’t see anything complex Saturday...no zone blitzes or disguised coverages...nothing. It was just a bunch of players who didn’t know their assignments.

The last time Coach O said that LSU needed to simplify something we lost to Troy.

"Bigger defensive linemen in there" Really? You don't like the 220lbs DEs we're sporting?

4-3 defense is antiquated facing modern offensive schemes

Jacoby has been out of position. I've been saying this You don't put a 6'1 230 guy at free safety. Bo pelini is an idiot

Honestly this is a lot like saying "All the math students are getting bad grades. If I just make all the tests easier, the students will get better grades."

"I don't care if we have to play one defense and one coverage; play it, play it right, do whatever we need to do, put our athletes in a good position and let them make plays." Florida bout to hang 50 on us...

I thought Pelini had a simple defense and it was Aranda with the complicated defense. That said fundamentals need to be mastered and that was evident that they aren’t
