Saban was hell bent on trying the NFL. LSU fought off NFL teams 3 years in a row before Saban took the offer from Miami. LSU was simply at the wrong time in Saban's career. Saban was flopping in Miami and bailed for Bama.

There was an interview with skip bertman who said that he told Saban to go. Saban didn’t really want to go that badly but Skip said it’d be an opportunity he’d regret missing out on.
