Update:
LSU announced that Bobby April has been hired as a Special Teams Analyst and will assist the staff for the bowl season. Per LSUSports.net:
quote:

"We are very fortunate to have Coach April join our staff,” Orgeron said. “He is one of the best special teams coaches in the history of football and our players will benefit tremendously because of Coach April’s knowledge of the game.

“Coach April is a great man and a true Louisianan. He loves Louisiana and from the first time we talked he said he wanted to help his state. It means everything to us to have great people who can be a part of our program like Coach April."

April, who’s coaching ties to Louisiana include stints at Chalmette High School (1976-77), Tulane (1979), and the New Orleans Saints (1996-99), brings 25 years of NFL experience to the LSU staff. He’s a graduate of Nicholls State where he played linebacker for the Colonels in the 1970s.

LSU has reportedly hired longtime NFL special teams coordinator and New Orleans native Bobby April, according to Football Scoop.

Just one day after landing the head coaching job at LSU, Ed Orgeron fired former special team coordinator Bradley Dale Peveto.

April served as a consultant for LSU's special teams this year.
quote:

LSU: Sources tell us Coach O has landed his guy to lead special teams at LSU, with long-time NFL special teams coordinator Bobby April expected to sign on full-time with the Tigers. April is the former special teams coordinator of the Titans, Jets, Raiders, Eagles, Bills, Rams, Saints, etc, etc, etc… Louisiana guy, born in New Orleans.
April is from New Orleans, LA and attended Nicholls State. He has not coached in College since 1990 but he does have a lengthy NFL coaching resume and won special teams coach of the year awards in 2004 and 2008, both with the Buffalo Bills.

plus a kicker that can kick it out the end zone on kickoff

If he can get our kickoff kicker to get it into the end zone 50% of the time, he deserves a big bonus.

LMFAO, the dude has been coaching ST in the NFL for 25 years. I think he's qualified. Hey, an NFL guy will likely get rid of this punt spread shite that everyone seems to love.

I say we give them a break until we see the results but the man has more football knowledge and his pinky than most 99% anyone on his board

Ouch! Ok! I'm convinced. April is the man! Did some checking and found he was NFL ST Coordinator of the year in 04' and 08'. Like I said, I don't mind being wrong as long as it benefits the Tigers.

can you enlighten me more on coach april why he is good? i really want this guy to do well at lsu, hope he does but this hire brings back memories from 4 yrs ago exact same what happened and didnt end up well for lsu the last 4 yrs. les miles for lsu hired cam cameron who had been fired from baltimore ravens back in october 2012 or oct 2013 cant remember. cam cameron had been in nfl for quite a bit as offensive coordinator so thats his niche his specialty. everyone knows how that resulted with cam cameron. so now we have coach O hiring mr april to be on his staff. can anyone point out something good of this hire

You don't keep getting nfl jobs if you aren't producing

I was afraid of this. I remember April from his days with the Saints. Had a few good years, but more bad than good. Bounced all around the league. Don't know if he can recruit. Maybe a big mistake, but hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

What player or coach DIDN'T have more bad years than good years with the Saints? Good years were/are far and few with the Saints.

Ever thought that he's "bounced around" because HCs get bounced at the drop of a hat? U can have the best ST in the league. If your HC isn't notching Ws, you're getting fired
