There has been a lot of chatter about Arden Key's NFL Draft stock dropping and on Friday we learned that the former LSU defensive end spent some time in rehab during his leave of absence from the team last offseason. Per NFL.com:
quote:

There's no doubt about Key's ability. But his diminished play last season -- a drop-off that followed offseason shoulder surgery and a "leave of absence" that Key has revealed to NFL teams was a voluntary stint in rehab to get a handle on his marijuana use -- has left him as a long shot to go in Round 1.

"He was a shell of what he was," an AFC scout said. "His actions have proven to be habitual, and I don't know that he can kick it."

Generally speaking, marijuana use isn't much of a red flag for teams. "For him, it is a big deal because it's affected his playing career at LSU," an NFC personnel director said. "The kid needs a lot of support and a lot of help. He needs to not smoke."

Teams are looking for a bargain, i wouldn't take him before 4th round. And if he becomes as good as he thinks he is, it's a win win, he'll get his money after he performs.

That’s not an addiction. Bob Sagat sucked dick for coke in Half Baked. THAT’S an addiction.

According to the stats, let Him smoke weed and let Tiger woods bang Denny’s waitresses. Both were better prior before they “cleaned up”.

Day 3 pick! The dopers thugs and women abuser should not be drafted! Let them sign free agent contracts for 2yrs and prove they are trouble free before you waste money!

I agree. Any other Joe blow is held to higher standards for much less pay. I know if I failed a drug screen for Exxon I wouldn't be hired and it wouldn't matter if I was the best in my field.

The biggest issue in all of this for me is Why did he wait so long to have his surgery?!? He could have done that months before and been ready to play. He just assumed he’d still be in the top few picks even if he didn’t play at all last year.

And that is what’s killing him. It goes to work ethic.

It was assumed the surgery wasn’t done until much later because LSU wanted to make sure he met their requirements prior to footing the bill on his surgery. Probably meaning complete rehab, meet our requirements, become eligible and we’ll pay for the surgery.

Oh THAT kind of rehab. For fricking weed? No. You don’t need rehab for weed. It was for something else, or more likely it was just a requirement to stay on the team when busted. If so, no issue here.

So LSU went with the "respect" his personal decisions hush hush play for weed rehab? Not believing that is even half the story.
