LSU athletics director Joe Alleva was interviewed on "Off the Bench" on 104.5 ESPN Tuesday morning and was asked to give his evaluation of the 2018 season, which exceeded many preseason predictions.
quote:

"It was a great year for LSU football, considering what all the experts expected," Alleva said.

"Whenever you exceed expectation, that's a good thing. But there's a lot of things that go into evaluating the program. Things like recruiting, how kids are doing in school... there are all sorts of things that go into evaluating the football program, and I think that coach Orgeron and his staff have done a terrific job."

"And they continue to do that out on the recruiting trail, motivating the players, and reaching out to the fans and doing all sorts of good community service. So, I think the program's in good hands and is heading in the right direction."
Alleva was also asked whether or not he has spoken with Orgeron about a contract extension.
quote:

"Not yet, but I think we'll probably have some conversations down the road, but we hadn't had any yet. The season's still not over yet."
Orgeron's current contract pays him $3.5 million per year and will expire on Dec. 31, 2021.

Why would we extend the contract for a coach that no other program in the country would try to steal from us? Makes absolutely no sense.

People always say extensions are necessary because of recruiting. But are they? More $ on a contract might make the decision harder but if an extra few mill ain’t gonna keep you from axing a loser. I say this because NEXT year is the year that will determine the direction. Hate to extend him before that

It wasn't great being embarrassed by Bama in BR and missing the SEC championship again.

We saw how the Nicki Caldwell conversations went....."Coach you did not live up to the standard and tradition of the program here at LSU thats was built before you but you did better than the "experts" predicted this year, here is a bag of money, great job looking forward to you continuing the progress you haven't made" -Joe Alleva

Any extension is coming but. 2015- Finish 9-3 with a cancelled game vs McNeese and a top 5 class and the coach enters the season on the hot seat and is fired 4 games in. 2018- Finish 9-3 with bowl game yet to be played and a top 10 class and the coach gets an extension. Why does he have to be extended? At least let him coach 19 on his current deal and evaluate his body of work.

I do not mind an extension as long as there is no increased buyout, which with how Alleva operates there most surely will be.

I like where program is going but why the frick extend his contract just yet. Maybe a raise if you have to but the whole buyout bullshite should not be a part of it. No extension maybe next year

I reread it I am not saying ed is doing bad I'm saying that he is doing good but we need more information to justify a extension.

He fired a coach for winning 9 games a year. Now 9 wins a season is exceptional. I suppose as an economic savings he is getting his 9 wins at a cheaper price.

Winning 9 games and go back and watch 2014 game again vs bama whatch the last minute remember what happened ??

There is absolutely no reason for an extension. Next year this team should be a playoff team, wait till then

Can we discuss not extending Joe Alleva's contract?

"Whenever you exceed expectation". Way to set the bar low you snake
user avatar
gcmoney365 months
How low was the bar set at the beginning of the year? How many on this comment section stated they'd be happy with an 8-5 season? Throw out the A&M game bullshite and this team is 10-2. I'd say expectations were definitely exceeded.

Not saying an extension is warranted nor that Alleva is at all competent. Just trying to quell the hate on the how the season went.

You can’t throw out games you disagree with. He’s average and ordinary. And this administration supports average and ordinary. End of story

"I Am The Search" replaced that "Win" bar with "Go Out There And Exceed Expectations". Hold that Binder, Hold that Binder!

If you are the reason the expectations were low in the first place is it praise worthy to exceed them? I would think the expectations that matter are the ones we have at LSU as alumni and a fan base, which I can assure you he did not exceed.

Alleva acting like we have top notch head coaching talent that some other school actually wants. Joe has no situational awareness as he hasn’t yet figured out that he hasn’t moved the ball forward by a single win since canning Miles. Not a single win, but this is now somehow acceptable? He is certainly moving the goalposts.

They should pay him 2 million for every SEC championship game we won since he has been here.
