Three-star defensive end Jaquon Griffin from Rome, GA announced Monday night that he has de-committed from LSU and has reopened his recruitment.

Griffin originally committed to LSU in April during the Tigers’ annual Spring Game.

The loss of Griffin puts the Tigers at 18 verbal commitments for the class of 2018 with the early signing period just 16 days away.

This will start a flood of "commitments" reopening their recruiting.

Simply orgeron making room for better players to add to this signing class is all that is. The only reason we really offered him in the 1st place was to get the other 2 guys he plays with in hs. This is a good outcome for LSU. He wouldn't have ever been a major contributor here anyway I don't believe.

He has small college size and speed. He will tear it up at Appalachian state. He is a strong kid but his size is off.

This kid is no loss. Would have been a wasted scholarship.

Exactly, stripes. This kid wouldn't have seen the field here until maybe his senior season, if at all.

Rome GA? That's northwest near the Alabama and Tennessee borders. He winds up at UGA or Alabama

LSU probably encouraged him to look elsewhere

Best de-commit I can remember, kid should thank LSU for the 3 stars; he had 0 when we offered the trio.

No problem with that. try your hand at getting a better offer...you can always come back to LSU later...if your scholarship hasn't been filled by someone else.

This is a “You should find another place to play” move

"Well, he is from Georgia" Rome is a lot closer to Alabama than it is to Athens. Fwiw.

Normally I’d say I’m not a ‘star gazer’ but it seems like he was just in the mix to get the other two. He has a very weak offer list. And that’s with a lot of exposure.

I'm sorry, but this seems a bit like it was encouraged. I mean, wasn't he the third of a trio we were trying to pull, with a really big fish LB? We offered all three with the hope of getting the one. We didn't get the big fish.
