Four-star safety Eric Monroe from Houston, TX (Northshore) announced Wednesday night that he has committed to LSU for the class of 2016. He chose LSU over Texas A&M.

Monroe was originally going to make his announcement at the Nike Opening Football camp in July but went public with his decision tonight instead.

The 6-0, 180-pound prospect from Houston, TX, is rated the No. 2 safety in the country and the No. 5 overall player from the state of Texas for the class of 2016, according to 247 Sports.

He is LSU's 17th verbal commitment for the class of 2016.

Because for some reason they only allow 25-35 5 star guys. I just go by the top 100 in the nation. More of those guys we get, the better.

How can you be the #2 safety in the U.S. and not be a 5 star?

Verbal. I feel uneasy about some of these, but either way it is shaping up to be a good class!
