The Milwaukee Brewers selected LSU shortstop signee Brice Turang with the 21st pick of the MLB draft on Monday which is not great news for coach Paul Mainieri and the Tigers.

Turang, a 6-1, 165-pound prospect from Corona, California was one of the top prospects in the draft.

The 21st pick is valued at $3,013,600 but the Brewers could offer him more or less. Per The Advocate:

Earlier Monday, LSU coach Paul Mainieri said that if, somehow, the 6-foot-1, 165-pound shortstop from Corona, California, didn’t go in the first three rounds of this week’s draft, the Tigers might have a shot of getting him on campus next year.

As it stands, that doesn't seem likely.

"If Brice Turang doesn’t get selected (Monday night)," Mainieri said after his team returned from the NCAA tournament in Corvallis, Oregon, "then immediately our fan base should get excited. We’re talking about the next Alex Bregman coming to school.

Hopefully he’s not a huge left-wing SJW like Bregman.

That's like a 30 year career worth of earnings for a normal person...gotta take that. Thanks for considering becoming a Tiger!

He’ll net about 1.2 million after taxes and paying an agent. That’s not really big money in the grand scheme of things. He’s definitely going to play in the major leagues but if he goes now he goes right to work… Single-A, - AAA. That’s a lot of long bus rides for the next 3 to 4 years. Not too many 6ft 1” major-league baseball players tipping the scales at 165. Go to college… Have some fun....hone your skills. Major-league baseball’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

Is that the same advice you would give your son?

Absolutely....If the kid is half as good as everyone says he is he’ll be making Alex Bregman money if he waits another year or two. 5.9 million signing bonus and 600k per year is worth waiting. He is too small at this point. Needs another 15-20lbs. It’s not like there is a high risk for a career ending injury.

People work to become first round draft picks. He’s already done that.
