Former LSU baseball player Ethan Frey signed his professional contract with the Houston Astros this week.

The Rosepine, La., native signed for $997,500, which exceeds his slotted value of $803,900.

Frey batted .331 this past season with 15 doubles, one triple, 13 homers, 50 RBI, and 43 runs.

Heckuva athlete. Can really run for a big guy. I was hoping he wouldn’t be drafted high and would come back. I want to say he was a catcher in high school but we never really got to see his defensive game

Glad he got paid. He’s still got some development and a position to figure out, but the swing really matured as the year went along.

I remember the first time I heard his name. He was inserted as a pinch runner. I automatically just thought he was some fast wiry little white dude. I didn’t think much about it until I found out the dude was 66 225 and then I became quite interested in his development as a player..
