The University of Florida announced Sunday afternoon that they have mutually agreed to part ways with coach Jim McElwain.

Randy Shannon will serve as interim coach throughout the remainder of the season. Per FloridaGators.com:

"We want to thank Coach McElwain for his efforts in leading the Gator football program," said Stricklin. "We are confident Coach Shannon will provide the proper guidance to the players and rest of staff during this time and we will begin a national search for the next head coach."
The news comes less than 24-hours after the Gators 42-7 loss to Georgia on Saturday. It was Florida third straight loss and 4th overall this season.

McElwain was 22-12 (16-8 SEC) overall during his time at Florida and won the SEC East the two season.

A lot of parallels between Mac and Bill Curry at Alabama. He had marginal success, but butted heads with the powers that be and whined about the fans. I always wondered if the glass shards fell on the outside of Bill Curry's office window.

I felt like as long as he was in Gainesville, he could not go out of state to get great talent, les GA. Hoping they hire another dud like Kiffin or Jimbo. Ha ha. UF could easily become FU with a good coach
