Here's Why This Former NFL GM Ripped Into Auburn Coach Gus Malzahn
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports
Former NFL general manager Mike Lombardi didn't hold back when talking about Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn, his offense and his development of Abs...
quote:

“That offense at Auburn, I’m not sure what the hell it is,” Lombardi said, according to Saturday Down South. “They run power, they run unbalanced. … But anyway, that offense, seriously, might be one of the worst offenses in football, so you can’t evaluate a quarterback in it or they can’t train a quarterback, that’s the other thing. (Gus Malzahn) can’t train them.”
And here was Malzahn's response...
quote:

“I’d say this: I’ve been in the league 10 years and we’ve been pretty successful offensively,” he said. “Last year was a tough year. We were very inexperienced, we had some growing pains, but I feel really good about our offense moving forward. Really excited about the future.”

Malzahn has taken his offense and ran the ball down the throat of every team in our conference at least once. Some teams more than once. That is a fact and that’s sad because it pretty much is a high school offense.

I've wondered this myself. All of Malzahn's best QBs came from previous college programs. The QBs that started in his own program have been shite....

Sorry for making the offense simple for the players? Especially the QBs? To win?

Gus is an offensive genius. F this NFL guy upset that Auburn isn't a QB farm for the NFL. The point of college football is to win championships not put the most players in the NFL. LSU thinks that's what college football is about but not the rest of us.

college coaches aren't concerned with developing QBs for the NFL. They're concerned, rightly so, with winning college football games. Period.

Very true. But we will still see the repeated thread mentioning how Bama doesn’t get QBs in the NFL.

While true, on the college level with the right QB the Guster offense is tough to stop.

Any college team with the right QB is tough to stop.
