Here Was Nick Saban's Interesting Response To Jalen Hurts Question
© Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
Alabama has a bit of a quarterback situation heading into the upcoming season. On Wednesday, head coach Nick Saban was asked if he expected QB Jalen Hurts to be on the roster come Week 1. Per AL.com...
quote:

Does he expect Jalen Hurts to be on the Crimson Tide roster when the team flies to Orlando for the season opener with Louisville?

“I have no idea,” Saban said. “I expect him to be there. I think it’s our job to give both players a very fair opportunity to have a chance to win the job at their position. … We’ll create a role for one or both of those guys on our team and they’ll all have to make a decision based on what that outcome is as to what their future is at Alabama. We certainly want every player to stay at the University of Alabama and graduate. Jalen has a great opportunity to do that in December so we are hopeful he will stay there and be a graduate regardless of his circumstances as a player. But that’s not to minimize his chances of making a starter or making a great contribution to our team in some way even if he isn’t the starter.”
Looks like Tua Tagovailoa is the starter? What do you think? Saban also threw down this quote during SEC Days as well...
quote:

“The No. 1 thing you’d like to talk about is the quarterback controversy you love to create and continue to create, you love to talk about. It’s still to be determined,” Saban said. “You can ask all the questions you want. I’m going to say, ‘We’ll see.'”

I think Hurts will announce he's transferring after a couple weeks of fall practice and he'll land at Tennessee with Pruitt or head back home to the Longhorns.

If I were Jalen Hurts parents I would advise him to stick around, get red-shirted if not a starter, graduate in December then transfer to another school next season as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility.

If that's the case, he might as well go ahead and transfer and get the extra time in with his new team since he wouldn't be playing till next fall. I have a feeling that Saban will let both QB's think they will be playing so he has a reliable back up in case the starter gets hurt. The other possibility is that the 3rd QB is actually better than Hurts like he showed in spring and if that's the case, Hurts might as well transfer. In his 2 years at Bama, Hurts has looked like and all american against bad teams but has never played very well against a good defense. Played poorly against LSU, Auburn, Clemson and GA last year, 4 best defenses they played

So tired of seeing bama threads here. Let’s hear more about the tigers and less about the gumps. Bama’s out of conference sch consists of Louisville without Jackson and 4 div II teams.

Promoting a guy with only one half of a football game over a guy that has only two losses in his career is idiotic in my humble opinion. But, maybe it works out; maybe it doesn’t.

Hurts being the #1 hurts their chances of being #1.

Knowing Saban he will probably put hurts in as much as possible to burn any chance at a redshirt

Every team needs to practice three times a day if Bama is having Tua days.

Couldn’t Jalen redshirt, graduate in December and transfer with two years to play

Yep, as long as he doesn't exceed 4 games played now with the new rule. This is what will probably happen.

Tua is the QB. Whatever happens with Jalen happens. That was about the best he could answer that without saying we HOPE Jalen stays anyway. I don't think Jalen holds off Mac Jones for the 2nd spot anyway. Jones was the most impressive QB we had in the spring game. He is poised, decisive and has a great intermediate passing game.
