2013 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost question??

132K miles. Only problems I've had is a throttle body about 70K-80k miles (10ish year??) ago and the fuel pump at about 20K that was done under warranty. I haven't been driving it much because my wife got a new car and we kept our 18 y/o old Subaru for the kid who's 15.
Anyway went to get on the freeway a week or so ago and it went it to limp mode. Pulled it over to the side of the road, turned it off and it was fine. AS it was 7:30 pm on a Sat night, I drove directly to O'Reilly's so they could pull the codes. Nothing. It's been fine since maybe 100-150 miles of driving. (But I'm probably jinxing it with this post). AI says it could be spark plugs. I DYI replaced them sometime during covid so I'm guess around 100K miles (did 1 coil pack at the time). Eta: During the winter I had noticed it would have a very small "rough" idle at start up and then be fine before I got back home from dropping the kid off at school less than 2 miles away. Ironically, that seems to be some what better now. (but it's warmer too).
Any ideas on why it would hit limp mode and then be OK? I just don't want to get stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.

Dump a can of sea foam in the tank and use the best gasoline you can get.

I have the exact same truck with way more miles that did the same thing around the same mileage.
Coils. Try replacing those. Mine would sometimes throw a code for one or two coils and sometimes not. Once I replaced them all and quit chasing a single coil it never did it again.

Mine would randomly go into limp mode. It would also randomly shutter but not go into limp mode. Brought it to a mechanic and it did not throw any codes. Ended up being a loose battery cable at the terminal.

All of this applies to mine - also a 2013 F-150 Ecoboost with now 270k miles. Other than normal stuff the only thing I've replaced were the coils - twice. In both cases it was only one that was faulty but just decided to replace them all.

On the 2014 I had it would random misfire when you hit the gas to pass someone or after it got hot. The Ford dealer that worked on mine replaced the boots on the coils and that cured my problem.
Not saying you don't have a bad coil or two but the rubber boots are far more likely to break down due to heat and a grounding coil will show as bad.

Thanks guys. As I said I changed one of the coil packs and the plugs before. It's like time for that. My only debate now is DYI or take it to the shop down the street...
