Not even sure if this is the proper board to ask this but whatever. Does anyone here partake in the timeless fun of board games, if so which ones do you enjoy the most. Currently have been spending a lot of time with the likes of Munchkin and Betrayal at house on the hill. Looking for some ideas of new ones to give a shot.

Not going to lie thought this was a joke based on our current climate, looked it up anyway and it looks very interesting. Thanks for the suggestion.

Pandemic is a great modern board game, without question.

I love board games. The ones i’ve been playing most often recently are Resident Evil 2 and Star Wars Rebellion.

Just started getting into painting miniatures and am painting all the 100+ pieces for Rebellion. It’s such a fun game that only takes 2 people to play.

I’m actually in the beginning stages of planning/creating my own Mass Effect themed board game, with the goal being to secure licensing and to launch on Kickstarter.

Wow that is awesome, please if you don’t mind keeping me up to date on your progress of the Kickstarter…. Would be cool to see how it turns out. Will look into the games you mentioned as well. I’ve got some studying to do ??????

Good start, but you'll want to move away from these fairly quickly.

Pandemic is great.

Ticket to Ride with either the Asia maps or the UK/Penn Maps is also great to start.

I'd also look at:
Isle of Skye or Carcassone
One Night Ultimate Werewolf or Werewords
Quacks of Quedlinburg
Dominion with Seaside Expansion, also Prosperity and/or Intrigue
Roll Player
Cartographers
Yokohama
Azul or Azul: Summer Pavillion

I'm a fan of x wing over rebellion, but it's a much more cumbersome game to learn and hits your wallet harder

Pandemic is a great choice as well, very difficult game though. King of Tokyo is a great, laid back game to bring out too

Firefly is a great one. Takes a fair amount of space, especially with the expansions.

What would be a good board game to get into for adults looking to get into board games?

Or maybe better said, what would be a good game if I am looking to get other people into playing board games without scaring them away because it’s too complicated or different?

Become a dungeons and dragons master that caters to only sjws who demand sensitive readers and think orcs are a metaphor for black people. It’ll be a full time gig

Ticket to Ride, which is basically just Rummy with a board, and King of Tokyo, which is Yahtzee, are usually the safest bets. But they don't do anything REALLY adventurous - that's where the extra maps for Ticket to Ride come in. I've had good success with Lords of Vegas which is the real version of Monopoly, but it is a bigger step up than most intro games.

But a small mix of games over time are usually the best way to get people hooked. I'd get the above plus something like Pandemic, Dominion, Catan (or Lords of Vegas), Quacks of Quedlinberg, and a social game like Coup, One Night Ultimate Werewolf or Wavelength - and people usually get hooked after that.

The big problem with board games is that you have to break down barriers and get people with different interests to play together. Some people will like the simplicity of Ticket to Ride, some will want the slightly more tactical nature of Dominion or strategic nature of Catan, then others want the social stuff.

If you invite people over, try to cover two of those gaps - a game of Coup or Quacks, followed by a game of Dominion, Pandemic, or Catan.

The whole industry is ate up with this stuff and it's driven me away from staying too close to it.

Now the term "Race" in fantasy games is causing all the rage. It's incredibly annoying. That and saying that Orcs are "dumb and strong," is also offensive. I don't know to whom, but it's stupid. All of the flavor is being removed from fantasy games.

It’s so ridiculous. It’s to the point you can’t even run your own game anymore because someone somewhere is going to pull some obscure ubiquitous few words from the manual and label you a racist bigot

Sure thing- whenever it gets to that point I would definitely share on the board.

The Mass Effect trilogy is definitely my favorite series and story told through the video gaming medium- it’s a shame that the only board game we’ve gotten out of it is a ME themed Risk

So many great suggestions in this thread I have no doubt I will be able to find many that will become popular plays in my group once I do my due diligence and research the lot of them. Keep them coming cannot ever have to many options.
