This the "Gaming Board", right?

I had a chance to play Power Grid last night with some friends, and it was as good as you would expect these German board games to be. Setting up the board and learning the rules made the beginning feel a bit sluggish, but once everyone gets it the game has a good flow. Not as much politicking as I would prefer, but still a great game design. Looking forward to playing again.

I've been trying to get into this hobby a bit lately. I've been playing "Ticket to Ride" with the wife a few times a week to give us something to do together after the kids go to sleep other than just watch TV and it's been a lot of fun, even with just 2 people.

I also just picked up a game called "Splendor" for us to play together. I've heard good things about "Power Grid" but I know it's best played with a decent number of people.

Ticket to Ride really is great, even in 2 player. Generally the wife and I are on the look-out for good 2 player games. I like Jaipur, and Carcassonne a lot.

Power Grid definitely shines in a 4+ player setting. To me it kind of feels like 7 Wonders, which is also very fun.

I still haven't had a big enough game of this, but I hear at 4+ it's much better. I do love the mechanics.

Ticket to Ride is fantastic, and I'm a big fan of Lords of Vegas which my girlfriend and I play frequently. It's like Monopoly on very cool steroids. Waaayyyy better.

Good stuff. I picked up the hobby to get my "gaming" in with other people. There's just something about sitting around a table laughing and competing. Even when I visit my parents my mom will try anything and loves stuff like 7 Wonders.

Just played this one. Nice little quick game. Lots of fun.

My brother plays a lot of board games and introduced me to several of them over the holidays and it definitely made me want to play those a lot more. I had tons of fun trying the aforementioned 7 Wonders and Ticket to Ride.

We also played Small World and Jamaica which are a lot of fun too. For a quick 2-player game, Mr. Jack is pretty fun too. Anybody else try these?

I have power grid and it is a great game. I have a group that comes over once a week we drink and play games. Played pandemic this past week and people enjoyed that a lot. It's a cooperative game so the different dynamic of working together is good.

I prefer Mr. Jack in New York for the modular board game. Tense game, lots of fun.

Yes! Getting to talk and pick on one another in between turns is fun as is the physicality of board games. There's just something fun to me about moving pieces you can feel around a board or rolling dice.

My only issue is that the family I have that IS into board games all live out of state, so the only time we play with more than 2 (my wife and I) is during the holidays. I wish I could get a little gaming group together but most of my friends give me strange looks when I suggest board games to them. "Ummm...why don't we just play a video game or go see a movie instead?" I can't wait until my 2 kids get a bit older so we can all play as a family.

We played a couple of rounds of it last night. I liked it but I'm not sure I love it. My wife is also undecided but said she wanted to play more of it, so that's good at least.

Cures to this:

One Night Ultimate Werewolf or The Resistance
Ticket to Ride (clearly)
Pandemic

Or another option like Lords of Vegas (and mention "A better Monopoly,")

You have to know those people and figure out hat would entice them. I've converted more than a few people to board gaming after finding just the right game.

Where are you located, and what are the ages of your kids? There are games out there suited to the younger ages that we've used.

Played this with about 6 people one time. Had a blast. I got stuck in a corner with someone else though, so it was over for me rather quickly.
