No it's not. They are building a multi-million dollar basketball facility at LSU. They just renovated the PMAC.

The fig-PAD is a dump. If you deny this, then you have lost what LITTLE credibility you have left.

More hot-shot basketball alumni at LSU vs. OM. The only basketball tradition you have is the biggest meltdown in the whole tournament that gets shown over and over and over and over on TV during tournament time.

And for the record, i don't want Andy Kennedy. But he'll be gone to another school in a couple of years if he keeps going like he is. So it really doesn't matter one way or the other.

This list looks good. I especially like this. This guy is very underrated. He has done really well at Vandy.

NOOOOO!!!

I'm in grad school at Belhaven. I don't want his arse here either!!

Go back a couple of years ago. Orgeron won it then.

Orgeron was recruiting guys to go to OM. That's a hard task. He just couldn't coach them up. He can nationally recruit as well.

OM has talent. They now get a coach who can coach them up, but Nutt isn't as good of a recruiter as Orgeron.

Orgeron at LSU would lock down all the talent in the state of Louisiana. Miles may very well do that now. I just feel, that these kids wouldn't be waffling as much. BAMA v. LSU. There is alot of that now.

Saban and Orgeron are along the same minds of recruiting. They are relentless. I know Porter is good also, but i just think Orgeron is better. I don't think Porter could pull in the talent at OM that Orgeron did.

Contrary to popular belief, Orgeron didn't get OM or USC on probation. The guy is good at what he does. He's just not a head coach and that's not what i'm wanting from him. JUST RECRUIT.

we should have told him it was ok to take Peveto

Agreed. And if Porter wants to go, then let him go. I would then hire Orgeron in the same position. RB coach is one of the easiest positions to coach anyway.

Plus, Orgeron is a better recruiter than Porter.

BAD NEWS. I'm not saying Mallory is a bad coach. He may be great. But i rather him get his feet wet with a team like Southern Miss or a Georgia Tech before he becomes the LSU DC.

As someone said, just to hire guy so they won't leave is retarded. Especially if you feel the other person is an upgrade.

Tenuta's resume > Mallory's - That's business.
Maybe Urban is one of these coaches who can't stay somewhere for very long either. I don't know. He was at Bowling Green for a few years. He was then at Utah for a few years. And now Florida.

I just don't see him leaving, but anything is possible.

bcs guy

They talking about a guy who is in the BCS this year? B/c Urban is not coaching in a BCS bowl this year. And wouldn't that be weird. he's playing Mich and then he goes there?? But since Mich AD is going to be there at the bowl game, i could see them talking to Urban about it.

I remember when we played Iowa in the Cap One Bowl, Skip talked to Kirk Ferentz.

I just don't see it happening with Urban. Mich is going to have to come off some bucks to get him.

or a guy who coaches in a BCS conference?
Or a guy who has coached in a BCS bowl before??

I guess only time will tell.

re: How to fix the Coaching Carousel?

Posted by MS TIGER on 12/13/07 at 1:43 pm to
I said this in another thread. These coaches need to have HUGE buyouts. If he doesn't want that in his contract, move on with the coaching search. That tells you all you need to know about him. He's not in it for the long haul.

If a coach cannot sign a 5 year deal without a buyout, then he is going to be looking elsewhere in a few years.

You don't want him coaching your program.

I have to agree with this assessment.

quote:

Miles would owe us about $250,000 if he left for any job except Michigan, which is chump-change as far as a head coach's salary goes, but it's still more than him being able to walk away for free.

Which is why i followed what i said up with this:

quote:

The schools need to swing this back our way using large buyouts to keep these coaches committed.

These buyouts need to be huge. 250,000 is peanuts in coaching. Hell, if Bertman sneezed at his desk and his pen moved across the ledger, he could wipe out $250,000 without even missing it.

But i know he would miss it.

Will people shut up about this. Petrino will do a great job at Arky. Maybe not this year or the next, but when he gets his players and they bite into his system, he will be a force in the SEC.

I would not go so far as to say he will do great. What do you consider great? If it's competing for the SEC title every couple or few years, then they fired a "great" coach.

The only problem i had with Houston Nutt was he couldn't win the SEC Title. Had he done that, he would still be the coach and they would still be singing his praises.

I just don't see Petrino becoming a "force" B/c of ARK's talent level, they will compete every few years for the SEC crown, but not every year. I do believe that Petrino will finally get them a SEC championship. I'm just not seeing a NC.

Then i think he is off in 4 years. I just think it's in his blood. He's a mover and shaker. he's always gotta be going somewhere else. Look at his pattern of behavior.
quote:

Integrity gets you nowhere in college football. Willingham has intergity look at how ND treated him. The only thing thats gets you anything is winning. Miles has integrity, but let him lose 5-6 two yrs in a row and see where he is. Hell, Solich has about as much integrity as one can have, the guy spent like 25 -30 yrs at Neb only to get canned after losing 3 games in a season.

Man, everything is setup in the coach's favor right now. Solich had integrity. Yes, he did. But, i wonder how much Nebraska paid him after they let him go. The schools are the ones getting screwed right now. they already pay coaches WAAAAY too much money as it is.

If a coach gets fired from a school, the school has to pay him the $$$. Like in Miles revised contract, if we fired him today, we would owe him $15 million. That's HUGE!!

Let's not use Mich as an example b/c of the buyout, but lets say if Miles left for Texas, he owes us $0. This system is in favor of the coaches. LSU would be screwed. It's absurd that college teams have gotten so desparate to win.

The schools need to swing this back our way using large buyouts to keep these coaches committed.
Good hire R-KANSAS!! Just kidding. The guy is a good coach. The SEC West is going to be competitive.

However, i thought you had a good coach. I think Petrino will do well. He will win a SECCG if he stays there long enough. The problem with ARK is that they don't pump out as much talent as other states on a yearly basis. Every 3 or 4 years, the team is going to be really good. I just think this is the norm.

Overall, Petrino was a good hire.

I hate to throw this in there though that he is a smug and slimy person.

with their search? Look i'm not Miles hater. I hope Miles stays here for a long time. But i don't believe that excuse.

You don't need to apologize. Media starts these fires.
quote:

Actually I don't think that would be a bad hire at all. He might end up being a better HC than DC. He is a great recruiter and an angry black man is just what Michigan needs to change things up.

Yeah, that's what yall need!!
quote:

I don't know. I would put my money on Nutt in that race. However, I think it would be a close race.

WRONG!! I would take Miles every day over the week over Nutt. Nutt was there for 10 years and won ZERO SEC titles. Last year was his best chance to do that and he blew it. Nutt had a chance this year and no improvement. Hell, they were worse. They beat LSU and rightfully so.

Les Miles does not coach defense. How was he going to stop McFadden this year?

Where has Les Miles failed that Nutt hasn't?? Nutt has had more than enough time to recruit a QB and has not.

Nutt has always been a QB away from being a good coach. He never could get it done. He had an older/experience team last year with alot of talent and could not win an SEC title.
Truth be told, LSU could do better.

But i want Miles to stay. What's sad is he is very underrated coach. You can have all the talent in the world and not play in the BIG GAME. Look at TN, AU, FL, hell even ARK this year. There is not a HUGE talent difference that people make it out to be. The talent just needs to be experienced in some key areas and you can make a run.

FLA next year will be that team.

Miles surrounds himself with great coordinators and would be stupid not to.

If anything, i think Miles is very UNDERRATED.

Because like the rest of the SEC, think he just wins b/c of the talent. Yet, he keeps beating all the coaches with the same type of talent and more conference wins and has an SEC title. And don't tell me any coach can come in with this talent and win. They may can win 7-8 games based on talent, but not 10-11 like Miles has done almost every year.
Van Pelt - is one big douche. I remember seeing him on Bourbon drunk off his arse on one of those balconies one of the nights before the last NCG.

Didn't even know how to throw beads. What a pussy.
