My thoughts on the permanent rivals if the SEC consolidated to a single open division.

Assumption is to have 3 permanent rivals with 6 rotating games amongst the remaining 12 teams. 6 rotating games results in a home and away for every team to play every 4 years.

1. Rivalry - Games like Tenn-Alabama, OU-Texas SHOULD never end.
2. History - Teams that have played the most historical games should be prioritized.
3. Geograpy - Teams should play teams nearest them if possible.
4. Balance - Each team should have 1 or 2 superpowers and 1 or 2 avg to bottom dwellers

In parenthesis is the number of total games played with that rival. First 3 teams are the permanent games. The rest on each line are just reference.

Rivalry and the number of games are closely aligned. Every team naturally has 1-2 obvious rivals. Some teams are newer to the picture and feel forced. They are much harder to place (ie Missouri and South Carolina).

LSU - MSU (113), Ole Miss (106) TAM (59) —— Bama (85), Florida (69), Arkansas (67),
Alabama - Tenn (103), MSU (103), Auburn (80) —— LSU (85), Vandy (85),
Auburn - Georgia (119), Florida (85), Alabama (80) —— MSU (95),LSU (55)
MSU - Ole Miss (114), LSU (113), Alabama (103) —— Auburn (95)
Ole Miss - MSU (114), LSU (106), Vandy (93) —— Arkansas (68)

Florida - Georgia (101), Auburn (85), Kentucky (73) ——- LSU (69)
Tenn - Vandy (111), Kentucky (106), Alabama (104) —— Ole Miss (66)
Georgia - Auburn (119), Florida (101), South Carolina (70), —— Vandy (78), Kentucky (75), Alabama (70)
Vandy - Tenn (111), Ole Miss (93), Kentucky (89) —— Bama (85), Georgia (79)
Kentucky - Tenn (106), Vandy (89), Florida (73) —— Geogia (75),

Arkansas - Texas (78), TAM (76), Missouri (13) ——- Miss (68), LSU (67),
South Carolina - Georgia (70) Missouri (13), Oklahoma (0) —— Florida (43), Tenn (40), Kentucky (34), Vandy (32),

Missouri - OU (93), Texas (20), Arkansas (13), South Carolina (13) ——- Kentucky (13), Vandy (13),
TAM - Texas (109), Arkansas (78), LSU (59) ——— OU 30

OU - Texas (108), Missouri (93), South Carolina (0) —— TAM (30), Arkansas (11),
Texas - TAM (109), OU (108), 76 Ark (76) ——— Missouri (20)

This is obviously not perfect, but I think it is about as good as it would get.
First look on TV, the Ball was clearly tipped as you could see the middle finger deflect.

Right after that, the ref on the analysis team said it was clearly tipped.

After that, they went to a different angle, grainy video, that was hard to see. They never once played the initial clip again because it didn't fit the Bama narrative.

Replay blew that big time!
I see a lot of people heavily weighing the past 20 years of success at LSU as a basis to warrant their blue blood status. While I do not disagree this is greatly warranted, I think overwhelming success over a relatively short (20 year) period does not, on it's own, guarantee blue blood status.

Ex. Miami was arguably the best program from 83-01 winning 5 Nat Champ. But they were average to below average the rest of their history.

And if National Championships are a true measure, which power 5 school won 5 national championships in an 8 year span, 6 overall, and has never been mentioned as a blue blood? MINNESOTA. That's right, more NC than Texas, LSU, Penn State, Nebraska, Tenn, Georgia.
Of course no one considers Minnesota a blue blood anymore.
Really good question and fun discussion.

I think MikeTheTiger71 made a very solid case, well thought out.

When I think of Blue Bloods, I think of a team with a history of winning, over time. College football is cyclical, so teams will have peak and valleys, but the better teams are able to win consistently.

The game has also evolved due to many reasons including transportation, segregation, broadcasting, popularity, and NIL so some historical teams fade over time while others emerge.

Undisputed:

1. Michigan - the definition of a blue blood - they would not be who they are now without that early success. Most wins ever. They stacked up more wins than anyone in the early years and built up an insurmountable lead.
2. Alabama
3. Notre Dame - most storied program in history
4. Ohio State - model of consistency over time
5. Oklahoma
6. USC
7. Texas

8. Nebraska - Despite being mediocre the last 20 years, and a lull from 1940-60, they have historically been dominant. I think it will be VERY hard for them to come back to form.

I agree that LSU is somewhere in the 9-12 range historically. And they won’t move much over time. So draw the line where you will, based on your definition of blue blood.

9. Tenn - strictly on early historical success is ahead of LSU as a blue blood. BUT they were fading quickly until their resurgence this year. The game had changed so much and Tennessee does not have the recruiting ground to compete with LSU long term. I see LSU gaining ground on them over time, but Robert Neyland build a blue blood program over there and they do have a 10-21-3 head-to-head advantage over LSU.

10. LSU - they were the second non Ivey league team to win a NC (1908). That is their defining mark of early success (though claimed much later).

11. Georgia - I put LSU ahead of Georgia by a razor thin margin because of the 5 NCs and the 18-13-1 head-to-head. But from a blue blood argument, these two programs are very similar.

12. Penn State, For me LSU is ahead of Penn State because Penn State played independent until 1992. Penn State probably would not have had quite the same success playing against 2 other blue bloods (Mich and OSU). LSU had to earn theirs again Bama, Tenn, and Georgia.

This is a good website to see how teams have done historically.

Side note- I’m a West Point grad, and if I was making this argument 50 years ago, Army would be easily in the top 10, but the game changed so much and Army will never be able to compete on a level playing field again.

I would imagine my track record on sports betting is better than most.

I don't bet very often anymore. Just on games I know I will win....

Last year I predicted a 31-10 Super Bowl. Tried to get the bucs -20, but no one would take the bet. Best I could get was was -10.5. I cleaned up since the score was 31-9.

To answer your question, I am in Houston now. Texas made it so I couldn't bet through Fan Duel and Draft Kings anymore so I found a bookie at a PokerGame. Maybe I will look for online betting.

Is that when I tried to place a big bet on the Bengals to win, at the point they were down 3-21, my bookie refused.

Had to settle for the second half moneyline.

BDJ!!!

Good for him because this bowl game has a completely reduced value.

BUT That is not something you would expect from the guy wearing the 18. That was selfish and the 18 was for the most unselfish player on the team.

To the educated tiger guy from Newport Beach...

Army is a great program. 3 National Championships, 3 Heismans.

Just because they have high standards doesn't mean that they can't have All-Americans. They are the BEST Americans.

Enjoy Newport Beach. I used to live there. Fun times.

Auburn v Alabama is a bigger rivalry because it means so much to each team.
LSU doesn't have a true rival, so to many LSU fans, Alabama is their biggest rival.

Auburn is 32-46-1 against Alabama
Auburn is 5-10 v Saban at Alabama
they are 10-10 last 20 years

LSU is 25-53-5 against Bama
LSU is 4-11 v Saban
LSU is 9-12 in last 20 years against Bama

Yes it is very close, but I think Auburn has been slightly more competitive against Alabama than LSU has been against Alabama... Since Saban has been there, over the last 20 years, and all time.

The Iron Bowl is the regular season last game of the year, so it would not make since to put your Bye just before that game. Instead they play a Sunbelt team before Auburn. However, it does make sense to put their Bye before LSU, your next biggest challenge which occurs in the middle of the SEC season.
That is just Karma.... for selling out to a crab leg steeling rapist to get a quick NC and Heisman.
Signing a rapist is hard to get over. Been a Saint's fan a long time, but this idiot deserves to be in jail, not being paid millions to play a game. Real bad look for the Saints.

Plus he has the worst judgement of any NFL player...

Rape white girl
then Stand up on table in student union and say misogynistic things about women
Steal crab legs
Grab Uber driver's crotch
INT1
INT2
INT3..
INT30

Needs to be chemically castrated!!!!!!
What a joke.

I would love to see some coaching!!

No defense...
No movement off the ball offensively...
5 players playing 1:1 ball =
Bad coaching
Better choice than Kyle Allen

Kyle Allen probably wouldn't be an upgrade over Harris....

But TREVOR KNIGHT might be!

I bet the OP would love to have Les at ULM....
He does not have the intellectual ability to manage the game, assess the defense, make quick decisions, and lead the team....

It is apparent all the time when he fails to make correct calls at the line, find open receivers, pitch the ball to LF7, and *&(*)(&(&%^%^%$%ing throw the ball away instead of taking sacks.

Not to mention the low ethical standards that Jimbo allows......

Rapist - Winston
Punching a woman - Cook

Les would have Perilloux'd those @^*&%&@^ right off the team.....
But Jimbo needs to sacrifice honor and integrity for Ws
