It has taken me damn near 50 years to figure it out, but I can finally say, I have a good short game.

It unlocked when i finally figured out that if I kept my lead wrist cocked, moved the ball back in the stance, and used a putting stroke, making downward contact on the ball with little to no force from the trail hand, the ball actually goes where I want it.

It works for all my wedges now. 60, 56 and 54. I even use it in the bunker with amazing results. Like, HOLY shite! it works!!!!

And this isnt a flash in the pan either. Five rounds of golf, no yips, no skulls, chipped in multiple times, lipped out chipping in multiple times, lag chip within gimme distance or 4 foot almost every single time. Its even helped with my pitch shots as well

Thank you God!!!!

Figuring out how to hit wedges from any distance is damn near euphoric

Enjoy

Thanks for that. I have fought the yips with my chipping for two years now. What once was the best part of my game is now the worst. Tried chipping cross-handed, putting everything from twenty yards in - nothing has worked. Went back to my old way a couple of weeks ago. I am determined to make it work. What you said makes sense. I am a lefty and need to take my left hand out of the stroke as much as possible.

Learned something similar last season where I took my index finger and thumb completely off the club with my trail hand. It lets the club head do the work and my short game got much more consistent.

Aha moments are the best.

I had one with my swing in general about 2 weeks ago. And it is so simple.

I noticed I was not standing up straight when hitting my driver and 3-wood. I have straightened my back, shifted the weight back a little, made sure my shoulders are square, and now I am piping drives and 3-woods straighter and longer than ever. My swing is so much more balanced and fluid. It is amazing really.

I can be slow sometimes, but this mystery took 45 years to figure out.

Better late than never I suppose

And it didn't even take hitting 1000 balls at the range to figure it out. It helped immediately and feels comfortable.

let us know when you're using the new set up and can't hit the ball...

it's going to happen...then you start looking for it again...

I had a similar realization recently. I've been playing for ~ 6 years and had my handicap down to 8.9 but got the shanks out of nowhere and my handicap ballooned to nearly 12. I could not get away from hitting push slices and every approach shot would end up short right of the green. Videoing myself, pissing my wife off because I was constantly swinging an air club, nothing worked.

Then recently I got to the course and told myself I'm going to try to hit a draw every single shot. Don't care if the hole doglegs or not, I'm trying to hit a draw. It made me feel releasing the club through the ball and not draging the handle. Shot +2 which is my best 9-hole score ever. I'm sure next time I go out there I'll lose it but damn did that feel good for a day to have a thought going into the round and actually execute it

They really are hard to beat.

I've been playing good lately but have been having to scramble my arse off all season because my irons have been weak. About a month ago when I got a new set of irons I was determined to get better. I tweaked my backswing and shortened it up a bit. It's been nice.

Unfortunately it didn't pay off in the first tournament I played in after, I shot 74 and could have shot 70 the Thursday before the tournament but on tournament day I shot 84. But I reverted back to my old swing early in the round.

Been striping my irons the past two weeks so hopefully this Sundays tournament has some better results.

A few years ago I realized I wasn't actually looking at the ball when I would swing. Immediate improvement.

Moving closer to ball for all of my irons was my epiphany. Covering wedges w ur chest is my key.

i've recently done the same, inside of 90yds used to kill me. now i'm playing that range better than i ever have, and i've suddenly forgotten how to take a full 50/56 degree swing without shanking every other one. so damn frustrating.

This happened to me yesterday during a round. Driver has always been my strength. Not just length but accuracy. All the sudden I was duck hooking and push slicing. I was just blown away. Calmed down and really concentrated on my swing and realized I was looking up way too early. Where it came from have no idea but it was simply I just not keeping my head behind the ball. Which leads to 1000 other problems like the golf swing is famous for
