re: Home Title Lock

As someone who does title research for a living, I don't see how this service would even be alerted if your property was being sold without your knowledge. Especially in Louisiana. They would have to manually do a search (in whichever parish the property is in) for your name in the conveyance records every day.
Additionally, I've never even heard of this particular type of fraud. The service seems pretty scam-ish.

re: Best hotels in Baton Rouge?

Watermark and Hilton downtown are probably the nicest. I recently stayed at the new Courtyard Marriot downtown and it was nice for a mid-range hotel.
re: Puppyspot.com anyone used this service to purchase a dog?
Posted by smd20 on 3/15/19 at 8:42 am to djangochained
Please don't use this site. They buy dogs from puppy mills. Google puppyspot reviews. I'm sure there's a breeder within driving distance where you can find the type of dog you want. Reputable breeders do not use sites like puppyspot.
As someone who worked as a paralegal at a PI firm, this is 100% accurate. They want to “borrow against their case” immediately. If it’s a big money case (18 wheeler Or offshore accident) the attorney will loan them the money almost always.

I have an ADT alarm system. Two weeks ago a guy claiming to be from ADT knocked on my door saying they were going to "upgrade my system". A few days later ADT sent an email saying there have been reports of scams in my neighborhood.
Just a bit of advice from someone who's gone through this, you may want to consider having a family member start monitoring her finances (credit cards, bank accounts, etc.) regularly. My grandmother was scammed over the phone several years ago, which was surprising to us as she was an educated and generally pretty savvy woman. We urged her to be more cautious but figured it was a brief lapse in judgment. Looking back, it should have been the first warning sign of dementia. She's gotten progressively worse over the years and we recently had to change her phone number because she was getting scammed on almost a weekly basis.
re: Hilton HHonor members or frequent travelers

The Hilton Los Cabos is amazing. By far the best Hilton property I've ever been to.
A home warranty (American Home Shield) was included in the sale when I purchased my house. I tried to use them twice, neither resulted in the problem being fixed, and I paid the $75 fee for someone to show up each time. One of the repair companies they sent was super sketchy. I did not renew.
Hilton Garden Inn or Homewood in Bossier. Both are new, nice and reasonably priced. The Remmington Suites downtown is also very nice.
I went a couple weeks ago. The service was really bad, but the food was decent. However, I would go back for the movie experience alone. The seats are giant recliners with leg rests. There was plenty of space to where I wasn't disturbed by the person next to me eating at all.
re: Anyone own a newer model Pathfinder?

If you haven't already done so, take it to a mechanic and have them check out the radiator to make sure fluid isn't leaking into the transmission. Mine had complete transmission failure at 61,000 miles because of a defect in most, if not all of the 05 Pathfinders
Either the Homewood Suites or Hilton Garden Inn (They are connected).

"Impressive Bulldogs" in Summit, MS. I purchased my French Bulldog a few years ago years ago from them, but they primarily breed English Bulldogs. They showed me around to see the facilities and all of their dogs. The English Bulldogs were beautiful.

It may not be an outright scam, but you will have to attend one or more timeshare sales pitches
If taking a cab, get the driver to agree on a price before getting in. Some of the cab drivers can be shady.
This happened to my 2005 Pathfinder at 61k miles. Nissan has known about these radiator/transmission issues since at least 2008. I took mine to the dealership because the gears were slipping and the engine was reving up on its own. I was told they couldn't find anything wrong (I was under 60K miles at this point). Two months later, complete transmission failure. They told me the transmission and radiator would both have to be replaced ($8,500) and they were not paying a cent as I was outside of the 60k mile warranty. I ended up taking it to an independent mechanic and had the transmission rebuilt for about $5k. Years later Nissan extends the warranty because the defect. They refused to reimburse me because the work was not done at an authorized Nissan dealership. I've been fighting Nissan on this issue for the past 5 or 6 years
re: What happened to all of the Chinese buffets?
Posted by smd20 on 5/6/14 at 8:31 pm to Holden M Caulfield
Oriental Pearl (on Government) is no longer a buffet. The last time I went they had replaced the buffet with a "serving line" with about 6-7 choices. If I remember correctly the serving line (take out) cost the same as the buffet used to

I saw Jersey Boys a couple weeks ago in Vegas and it was fantastic!
I add a little bit of liquid crab boil to the water when boiling the potatoes. My potato salad has been a hit every time with this method
