I'm pretty sure everyone has seen these ads about people unlawfully stealing your ID and getting a mortgage on your house, etc etc.

Is there a way to keep track of the status of your home title with the city-parish other than paying these guys? The only thing I know you can publically do is check the tax bill on any property, other than that I have no idea what info is available.

You can publicly pull all records for any piece of property in LA. However, i work in a field that deals with land title, and I have never seen or heard of this being a thing. I wouldn't worry about it.

please fix your thread title...the subject of your thread should be easily identifiable but the thread title. The great posters of this board should not have to click on your thread to decipher the meaning of your thread.

I too work in the lending business. I’ve never once heard about this being an issue. Would not buy it.

Definitely am not going to, but was hoping to find a way to monitor this without paying for the service.

Found this YT video that discusses the action LINK

Lots of steps involved in getting a mortgage where it would be very very hard to fake an identity. Also, if your property is already mortgaged, the best anyone could do is take out a second mortgage, which would only really matter to you when you try to sell the home. It would be a relatively easy fix at that point to determine it wasn't you who signed the mortgage docs. Again, this just isn't a legit concern imo. Add it to the list of scam insurance policies out there

As someone who does title research for a living, I don't see how this service would even be alerted if your property was being sold without your knowledge. Especially in Louisiana. They would have to manually do a search (in whichever parish the property is in) for your name in the conveyance records every day.

Additionally, I've never even heard of this particular type of fraud. The service seems pretty scam-ish.
