Question is how do you do it? I have tried for years off and on going all the way back to high school and I just can’t get my body to get up and go. Plus I am usually starving when I wake up and ready to eat first thing no matter what I eat the night before. I really want to make an effort to get in better shape and looking at my schedule with young kids the morning is really the only option.

Just have to force yourself to get up and do it. Eat something that is light on the stomach if need be when you wake up. What helps me is minimizing the amount of decision-making and negotiation I have to do with myself when the alarm(s) go off. Clothes I plan to wear are laid out the night before, pre-workout meal/routines determined the night before, etc. Plenty of plans out there as far as workouts and such go

I make myself run or walk as soon as I get out of bed. Even if it's a half a mile I still do something. It usually sucks but it helps me stay disciplined. I'm the type who needs structure and I remind myself that I'll start to fall apart if I slip up on discipline.

I bought a walking pad and I do that first thing every morning. It's right next to my bed. Has a little stand for my iPad and cost like $100

I switched from afternoon running to morning about 15 years ago, afternoons in Texas and LA for summer months just aren't smart. It sucked got a little bit but got easier quick. I don't eat anything before, just drink some water. You'll get used to that. But I'm only running 3.5 (already getting up at 5 to do that and be cleaned up in time to help get kids going and myself working by 715, can't imagine taking more time or getting up earlier). I do love being done with the hardest part of my day before 6.

I’ll show you how…

Tell us what you don’t like about yourself… why do you need to get in better shape?

I just feel like I’m not having the same energy I used to when I was more active. I’m not obese or anything (6 foot 2 and 200 pounds) but I am the heaviest I have been. Plus I have knee issues from sports and the heavier I am the worse my knee is so I know I need to drop some weight.
