re: Baton Rouge Greens Report

Unfortunately this is not the case. One company has developed a new product that takes Poa out bentgrass and it has been used as a pre emerge on Bermuda putting greens with mixed success. I’m told you have to sign a waiver before purchasing.

WHERE TO USE
Barricade 4FL is a selective preemergence herbicide that provides residual control of many grass
and broadleaf weeds in:

•Established turfgrasses (excluding golf course putting greens), lawns, and sod nurseries

There are several chemicals on the market that will prevent/kill Poa in home lawns, tees, fairways and roughs but not on greens. Most herbicides labeled for greens have become resistant from over use.

The few pre emerge herbicides that are labeled for greens (pronamide and methiozolin) are not 100% effective and many environmental factors dictate there success.

The 101t’s have a thinner top line and smaller face. They are about the same size as my mizunos were. I went with the 101’s since I play about 4-5 times a year and the misses were a lot better. A hybrid set would be nice but the lofts are different.

I played 4 times this year, twice around thanksgiving and shot 80 both times. The more forgiving club helps.

I went from mizuno MP-54 to the 101’s and really like them. I only play a few times a year now so I wanted something with more forgiveness. You can order a set and use the 7 iron and send them back if you don’t like them. I ordered the 101 and 101t’s at the same time.

We ate at Southern Prime but it’s been a while. The staff at the Caroline Hotel recommended it and it was great.

You can’t go wrong with Arrowhead, Fossil Trace or Castle Pines North.

Other courses to consider in no order: Commonground, Green Valley Ranch, Riverdale Dunes and Bear Dance.
We ate at Southern Prime about 4years ago and it was a great steak. It’s upscale but there’s seating in the bar.
Grand Ridge in Luling is open for play.

Common ground if you want to stay in the city and Red Hawk Ridge in Castle Rock.
Four Mile Ranch in Cañon City, south of Fort Carson, is very unique. The greens are the craziest you’ll ever play. It makes for a fun round but definitely have to go into with an open mind.

Other than the Broadmore I haven’t played anything in Colorado Springs, but Perry Park in Larskpur, Plum Creek and Redhawk Ridge in Castle Rock are fun and inexpensive. Perry Park is private but you can play as a prospective member for there guest fee.

The Ridge at Castle Pines North and Redhawk Ridge, both are south of Denver in Castle Rock. The Ridge at Castle Pines will be pricey but is the best public course on the front range and in just as good of shape as most private clubs.

Both courses offer dramatic elevation changes compared to any course in the city with great views of the mountains.

CommonGround and Fossil Trace if you want something closer to the city.
