Thank you all for the replies and advice. I ended up getting to campus around 10:15am (for the 6pm kickoff) and parked on the shoulder of Dalrymple by U-High (facing away from campus). After the game (I stayed until the end of the 3rd quarter), I was on I-10 heading west in less than 15 minutes....

I live in the Houston area and thus will be heading west after the game. It seems the Dalrymple/U-High/Law School area is not a bad place to park, in terms of being able to get on I-10 West relatively quickly. I don't mind a long walk to and from the stadium - or paying $20 or so for a spot.
