I think removing a guy for a series sounds great until your best defensive player gets an obvious but unintentional knee to the balls (or something like that) on the first play of the final drive of the game. And does the rule only apply to defense? Do you lose your QB for the whole drive if he gets the wind knocked out of him on an early play on the final drive of a game?
Just have the same refs in the review booth watch out for this crap in real time. Give the team one warning and the next is a 15 unsportsmanlike conduct called on the HC. A third and the HC is tossed.

It was pretty obvious. Fowler's suggestion of making players who go down sit out the rest of the series is a pretty good idea.
