First time going to Yellowstone the last week of July with wife and 2 kids(11,9). So far we are flying in to Bozeman, MT and renting a car and staying 2 nights in Gardiner, Mt. The third night we will be staying in Yellowstone at Old FAithful Snow lodges. The 4th night I cant find any lodging available in Yellowstone or Grand Teton. Where should I stay to explore Grand Teton for a day. The 5th and 6th nights we are staying in Jackson Hole. Should I stay in Jackson the 4th night also?

Thanks in advance

I think that’s probably the best bet. Changing hotels one less time is a plus as well. I would say stay at the lodges, but it’s probably difficult to get another night there.

Its a very easy 30 minute drive to the GTNP from jackson hole. You could also stay in teton village or wilson.

Check back a few times each day and I bet you’ll find a room in old faithful (or grant if they open it up). The cancellation policy is pretty liberal and rooms open up all the time.

Jackson is not a bad drive. If you want a cool experience and to maybe be a bit closer, look at the guest ranches in Moran and Moose.

Colter Bay or Jackson Lake Lodge would be your best bets. They are closer to Yellowstone and will cut 45 minutes or more out of your drive to Jackson hole. Then you can explore The south of yellowstone for longer (not much there frankly) or the north side of GTNP.

Jackson Lake Lodge is an awesome spot to sit outside and have dinner.

Bring binoculars and try to get up early every day to see wildlife.

You could also just go to Mormon Row every night for the sunset. To this day, I don't think there's a more beautiful sight on the planet than the sun sinking behind the Tetons with beams of light shooting all the way across the sky.

Certainly, but the wildlife at Mormon Row is not as good as elsewhere and its also like 40 minutes from Colter Bay and 1.5 hours from yellowstone. I was just suggesting somewhere in between the two to save them some travel time.

Also OP, that's not a lot of time. You could do 3-4 days in yellowstone and 3-4 in GTNP/ Jackson Hole and still wish you had more time. Plenty to see, especially if you want to get off the beaten bath much. That's enough to have a great vacation, I'm simply saying if you have more time I'd take it.

Jackson Lake/Jenny Lake Lodges aren’t opening this year. I was supposed to go for Memorial Day weekend, but obviously got cancelled. We are doing both parks next year.

We are flying in/out of Jackson. 1 night at Old Faithful Inn, 3 nights at Canyon Village, 2 nights at Jenny Lake Lodge then fly home.

I would keep checking the Xanterra website for another night in the park. Usually they have rooms opening up.

Jackson Lake Lodge would be a great stop in between the parks and Jackson, but they aren’t opening this year.
