American cancelled our flight tomorrow into MSY (layover in DFW) and rebooked us on Friday. Do they ever give refunds for these things or are we just expected to pay for 2 extra nights in a hotel?

Where are you traveling from? What airports are nearby that you can alternatively make it to? Can you leave super early in the morning? I can look up and see what's out there for tomorrow, maybe we can get you close to MSY.

For refunds, if your flight cancelled yes you can get a refund for that portion and book on another airline. Might take like 2 months to get your money back and the other airline may be 4x as expensive as you paid though...

I was not about to bother you with more tips especially after your long day and what ended up being night . But yeah, you absolutely should call AA (it'll probably be like $50) when you have spare time. Not sure how long after a flight is cancelled you can request a refund, might be easier to submit this one online now that I think about it.

Oh, I went to AA's refund website and am posting below. Guessing online will be the slower route, but sounds easier and you don't have to deal with people.

"We're here to help.

Don't worry, the value of your ticket is safe if your flight is canceled.

For now you can either:

Wait and call when you're ready to rebook. (You'll be able to apply the value of your ticket and seats to a new trip.)

Request a refund, or check the status of your request."

AA refund link

Click on the link and request refund. You will need your ticket number (should be in the email you got when you booked the original reservation) and name.

I'm not surprised, wonder if your ticket got reissued when the cancellation happened. Yeah phone sounds like a good alternative

SLC. There doesn't seem to be any issue getting out of here. Its the DFW leg that's the problem. I managed to find one tomorrow morning that connects in PHX so we did that. It'll only cost us one extra day instead of 2

Perfect, was going to recommend connecting in DC, Philly, Chicago, Miami, or Phoenix instead of Dallas. Glad you were able to find a flight!

Cuse is a very kind and patient soul. I'm amazed at how many folks don't really know what to do when their flights are cancelled to weather... Cuse for saving y'all butts!

There are a few options into MSY for Friday/Sat out of Den. But I need MLU...and that is hanging by a thin thread for a Friday night arrival.

I had one with AA out of ASE-DFW for tomorrow morning but I went back to log in and it was gone

I'm not sure I want to connect out of Dallas though...I'd rather drive home from Dallas than drive home from Steamboat
