Eating lunch at the Three Rivers Resort in Almont, CO about 6 hours ago. The waitress asked the couple at the table next to ours where they were from.

"Baton Rouge"

I gave him the secret TD look as we were leaving. Almost certain he nodded back.

Took the chair lift up to the top of the mountain and then hiked down. Awesome place.

To the right of my kids is the Crested Butte Resort. To the left of them about 3 miles further down the valley is Crested Butte town.

Not a popular opinion here but I like Crested Butte better than To Hell You Ride. It’s easier for me to get to and it’s just badass with the lakes and trails and Montanya Rum! I know the trails very well so I can get around those mtns.

Hope you stop by Gene Taylor. Cool gear packed wall to wall and ceiling to floor.

Montanya rum is fantastic! Best drinks in CB. Maharaja is our favorite with Caldera being the runner up

The dogwood also slings great drinks

Despite getting COVID-19 there in March we love that area

We're heading up that way for Christmas as a first time trip. Hopefully we'll be able to go. I heard the town shut down pretty quickly when Covid stuff started to appear.

What's the situation up there (other than the great weather)?

Yes. Because the community is so small that an outbreak would quickly overwhelm it. Which is why people should not be going there if you’re from a hot spot state/area.

Everything here is great as far as I can tell. Downtown Crested Butte is bustling. People are fishing up and down the river. Rafts trips are rolling. Healthy, thin, athletic looking people outside peddling, running, hiking, paddling all over the place.

Everyone is wearing masks inside any building, shop, restaurants, etc.

Masks are the only sign anything is different. That, and the fact that I was able to get an RV spot on 24 hours notice. And a rafting trip on 24 hours notice. My guess is that wouldn't have been possible on a normal year.

So, it's crowded, but not TOO crowded. In other words: Perfect.

Stopped the RV for a quick lunch on Kebler Pass

Evolution Bike Park (the Crested Butte lifts turn to mountain bike use in summer normally) is closed for the year.

That's one difference I know. I'm not sure if that's an economic decision or a public health decision.

Not sure what that is. We took the Queen lift up to the top yesterday morning. Lots of people were taking bikes up and biking down.

Red Lady was open for bikes? My understanding was that they'd not open lift service for bikes this summer. One of our biking friends summers there and said lifts were closed for bikes but that hiking lift was open.

Edit:
Not sure how people were getting their bikes up (I know some folks are self-shuttling via vehicle), but website shows that all mountain bike trails and lifts are closed:

I love Gunnison

Didn't draw my elk tag in that area this year and won't be going

Check out Trader's Rendezvous if you go down to Gunnison
