Based on this board’s suggestion, we are taking a family trip to San Diego this summer. We will hit all the tourist spots in from SD to La Jolla.

Anyone have restaurant recommendations? Looking for great must-experience places, local places, unique places, etc. It can be fine dining to a taco stand, we are open to any suggestion. We have high school aged teens.

Thanks in advance.

Phil's.

I'd make weekend trips from El Segundo to San Diego just to eat their beef ribs. Maybe the best beef ribs I've ever eaten.

If you are near Mission Beach, Sandbar Sports Grill has some good fish tacos and a good selection of drinks.

Cowboy Star for best steakhouse in the area.

The Taco Stand in La Jolla for best burritos you’ll ever have.

Maggie’s Cafe (greyling dr) for breakfast/brunch.

Be aware that depending on when you go in the summer the sun may barely be out. May grey and June gloom is a thing. Doesn’t start getting sunny on the coast until usually July.

So many great places to dine in the area but some of the best fish tacos I have ever had were at the Brigantine in Del Mar (overlooks the Del Mar Racetrack).

Yea but the prices you pay for the quality and servings is usually disproportionate. There are a few little Italy restaurants I enjoy but would suggest venturing out to the non-tourists or non-uppity local spots.

Little Italy is good for deserts. Recommend trying Salt and Straw.

Slot Canyons for a daytime hike... its amazing. Take the long trail all through the canyon, it will be unlike anything you've done.

It's dusty, so don't wear nice sneakers.

Asti in the Gaslamp Quarter was a very good Italian restaurant.

Breakfast Republic for breakfast, has a great “party brunch” vibe

Home Grown for a nice dinner, has incredible food however it’s not cheap. Eye candy galore
