re: What's the minimum layover time you give yourself when flying domestically?

This is amazing to hear. Thank you!
Just checked. 757 both on both flights. You have eased my only worry on this trip.
We have traveled with the baby before, but never with his carseat. I was a little anxious.

And if you book a flight with a 45 minute layover and miss the connecting flight because the first flight is delayed, how is that handled??

I haven’t booked with a layover flying domestic in years. DFW has direct flights just about everywhere.
Now we did have a layover a couple years ago going to Sacramento, but it’s because we sat at the bar too long and they gave up our first class seats. The next flight out with first available was through Phoenix so we took that.

I fly out of Chattanooga whenever possible. We have a $250ish limit/person for the convenience to fly out of cha vs driving to Nashville or Atlanta.
A layover is Atlanta is almost always happening if we fly out of Chattanooga. But damn it's so nice to not have to drive 2 hours at the end of a flight

For those of you saying ATL with 40 minutes is good, I would've blown my connection in ATL and gotten stuck there tonight had I booked that 40 min connection IAH-ATL-BUF. Sitting here in Minneapolis with my 1 hr 20 min connection still intact, plenty of time to get chicfila and use the restroom without having to change terminals
I was batting 1.000 for making my flight with a 40ish min layover in ATL until recently, my flight was delayed and I missed it.

Two things.
Flew the ATL-JFK-KEF flight a few weeks ago. I can confirm for us it was the same plane. Newly refurbished 757 with food IFE.
40 minutes makes me a bit nervous, so I like about a hour going through ATL - longer if international. If Delta sees you are going to miss your flight, they often rebook you automatically. New flight info shows up in their app (which is an awesomely well done must have). I just went through BOS from ATL connecting to Alitalia to FCO. Change of terminal and you have to go back through security, so definitely need a good 90-120 minutes there.

I have 30 minute connections in CLT fairly often. DFW/ORD I need at least 45 min.
I chose these with the premise that can and sometimes do get bumped.

30 minutes but that is pushing it with the way airports are now. You should really shoot for an hour to be safe. You should also go by the boarding time when planning and not the flight time.

Yeah, I'm in Birmingham so the same deal. Most of my air travel is personal these days, so we usually just drive to Atlanta unless we're flying Southwest. We have friends that live close to a Marta station, so it usually saves at least a few hundred to park at their house and Uber to the Marta station, and we don't have to worry as much about layovers.

I try to avoid anything under an hour, but time of day, size and location of airport, destination, and necessity of travel factors into the deal.
An airport that has lots of carriers scare me less cause there are other flights you can take if you miss yours and your heading to a major city.
