Since everyone keeps asking individual questions, let's have one official thread for this. Texanmark has a great tailgating and visitors guide for syracuse games so credit to him for everything in the first link below. I'll post some of my suggestions below

Texanmark's tailgating guide

WIFI: You can use it as a guest on airorangex. Here's links how to get wifi and the wifi locations LINK locations

Bars: Downtown: the region you want is by S. Clinton and Fayette St. There's about 10/15 different bars in that area, Daisy Dukes, Syracuse Suds, Kitty Hoyne's, Limerick Pub, Empire (my choice, not very many tv's but good beer), etc. Find one or bar hop and enjoy all of them...

Transportation: The bars do run shuttle buses for free between them and the carrier dome. It is a long walk from campus to downtown, I would not recommend it. Also, there is no uber, only taxis so make friends with someone at the game or on here for rides around town. Kitty Hoyne's will open at 10am per oyster's information, other bars should be around same time then free shuttle to the game. Centro has a free bus that runs from campus to downtown called the connective corridor. It runs until 2 or 3am every half hour or hour depending on the time. If you're staying at the sheraton or crowne plaza you've got an easy mode of getting back at night.

By campus: Marshall Street has a few bars (Faegans and Chucks). Chucks (pictured below) is the young college crowd with lots of huge TVs and cheap pitchers, Faegans is the older crowd with good beers on tap.

Note: If you're planning on buying liquor or wine, you have to go to a liquor store. You can buy beer in grocery stores so a good option is Wegmans in Fayetteville. There's beer in the store then next door is Liquor City, pretty cheap booze prices.

Tailgating: Follow mark's guide for the best information. It sounds like a lot of you are planning on skytop. Skytop is easy since you can take a free shuttle over to campus before and after the game. Manley also has parking, but it will likely fill up before skytop. There will be some syracuse people tailgating on the quad, in the lots by the dome, and also under I-81. Make friends and enjoy yourself. I never had a problem with drinking on campus during gameday, just don't be that obnoxious drunk guy and you'll be fine. The quad features the syracuse band and several other activities so you may want to stop by at some point.

Carrier Dome: Not too many bad seats in the dome, they sell alcohol until the end of halftime or 3rd quarter, and there is no air conditioning. Just a warning: If you plan on parking by I-81, there is a pretty big hill between the dome and I-81 so be warned.

Food: The varsity on marshall street has some awesome italian food and pizza, there's the usual starbucks, subway, jimmy johns, insomnia cookie, etc. You will find much better food downtown (Pastabilities, Dino BBQ, Darwin's, Kitty Hoyne's). Alto Cinco is off Westcott Street and is also pretty good. Funk and waffles (next to Chucks) has a hippy vibe but good music and waffles

Things to Do: Wineries by the finger lakes, Green Lakes State Park outside of Fayetteville is beautiful, Niagara Falls is 2 hours away, Turning Stone (casino and golf course) is about 40/45 min east, Drumlins on Syracuse's south campus has a nice golf course. Destiny USA is a huge mall north of the city that has indoor go carts, movies, shopping, a rope course, etc. Onondaga Lake just north of downtown has great scenery of the city and nice bike/walking paths.

Hope everyone enjoys the nice weather and friendly atmosphere, it's tough to choose between my undergrad school and grad school to win this game.

Weather forecast (will be updated throughout the week): High of 73*F, low of 51*F. Bring your sweatshirts

Thanks CuseTiger. Good stuff!

I'm still debating on Skytop or Armory Square for parking and home base for the day.

Thanks for all your help! I'm so excited for this trip. My wife and I are staying at Turning Stone along with my parents, does anyone have any experience staying there?

We will be parking at Armory Square, but considering bars not opening up until 11, will they still have the shuttle service for a 12pm kickoff?

eta - thanks for the info and link to texanmark's blog

I'm not sure, never done it before so may be worthwhile calling. I can update the OP if someone knows or finds out

I called Kitty Hoyne's and they told me they were opening at 10:00am for the game and have a shuttle bus from their restaurant. I would think the others in the area are doing the same?

Awesome, I think the bars team up and run shuttles depending on the amount of people in the area. Kitty Hoyne's is by a bunch of other bars so no one should be left behind. I'll update OP with this info

Sweet. Our plan was to take a taxi from our hotel to that area and catch a shuttle. Seems like we're still good to go there.

I asked if there were shuttles from the area to the dome and the girl I talked to said "We run a shuttle bus...and have bracelets" which made it sound to me that it was a Kitty Hoyne's bus. I also asked if there was a cover or anything because of the bracelets comment and she just said they prefer if you buy a beer or a sandwich or something.
BTW..I also called Empire and they seemed clueless and told me they don't open until 11:30. Bummer since they tout a Cajun Bloody Mary.

Kitty Hoyne's is only 1.5 miles from the Carrier Dome according to mapquest. Walking is not out of the question I guess, although the original poster says he wouldn't recommend walking from downtown (I'm assuming Kitty Hoyne's is downtown).

It's not out of the question, but depends on if you like walking through the projects . They are on the other side of I-81, run up to Adams St. So you could parallel I-81, walk by the hospitals, then down Adams to get downtown to avoid that area

I wouldn't recommend walking from Kitty Hoynes. It's a hike, and half of it is uphill, and across some pretty heavy traffic. It's a great little Irish pub though. It was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives (the 8 minute video about it is pretty easily found online, to get a sense of what the place is like).

Just realized that was a jerk move on my part to not just link it, so here it is: LINK

What's the best brunch place downtown, then. Papa is going to need to get started a bit before 10 a.m.

That's where we'll be. Never been to Turning Stone.. Driving from Boston. I'm going to golf on Friday. I'd imagine a lot of folks will take that day to go to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Hitting up the steakhouse Friday night. Be ready to roll early Saturday morning.
