I was planning on getting to NYC at around 4 tomorrow. Have an apartment I need to check into before 10pm plus had plans to eaand do stuff. My direct from MSY to EWR cancelled. The next EWR arrival is midnight so I took LGA for 9pm with a layover (no directs left)

They did get me on a now 8 hour flight that stops in Houston (I only really ever book direct flights).
I have found flights direct on American and Spirit and SWA tomorrow. All airlines I had issues with. SWA being the best.

If you were starting a 9 day trip to NYC tomorrow. Would you cancel and try and get a refund (should be allowed since the moved flight twice and then cancelled) and rebook or just keep the flight you have?

I prefer travel into EWR with the train system but will just taxi from LGA.

not sure if booking a new airline is better or if the 5 hour loss isn't that big a deal.

If they cancelled your flight yes you can get a refund. The question is what would you rebook to? The entire NYC area is getting bad weather tomorrow so wouldn't shock me if there's a lot more cancellations starting tomorrow morning. Is there a way to change using the app or online?

I see it's about $275 to book a one-way direct on JetBlue, delta, or spirit. That's an option as well but not sure how much your other flights cost

I would book direct with either American or Southwest. Assuming you’re staying in Manhattan, Cab or Uber from LGA is easy, especially if you’re staying on the east side and on a street that has numbers.

damn your good at this lol.

So what I got now is UA 2034 to Houston
40 minute layover
then UA 6111 to LaGuardia. It's a E175 I hate those little things. but thats the best time wihtout rebooking. Also I paid $70 a ticket for this flight. So rebooking I would get a refund but SWA 1088 flys the same time and route as the United I had canceled. But $1100 for the tickets instead of $300 for all.

Weather isn't great in Houston or NYC tomorrow, I'd see if you can get on united 2180 and at least have a longer layover in Houston. Don't really trust a 40 min layover given the thunderstorms forecasted

I personally love the E175s as it's 2x2 seating so you're guaranteed to have a window/aisle combo

I expressed that concern and I was told 10 people plus are on the same connection as me and they will hold the plane.

LaGuardia has a FREE Q70 bus that will drop you off at the subway station and from there you can catch the E train into Manhattan.

I lined up a car service since it was late at night and I'm with teens.

We'll unfortunately I see what happened is what we thought was going to happen. Are you at least able to get to NYC tonight given the delay out of MSY?

Yeah. Today was rough. But I'm wheels down in Newark right now waiting to pull into gate.

Our fight from MSY was delayed 2 hours for a mechanical issue.
So I called the 800 number and booked a direct from msy to ewr at 8 something that got in at midnight.

Then I walked off plane with my family. Knowing planes I knew it was going to be a full deplane as the ac was out too.
So I was first in line at the gate agent asking to get my bags out of the checked luggage. Then while I'm up there I hear the radio say to prepare for deplaning.
So we are off the plane. Going to wait until 8. Then they fixed the plane. So I called the 800 number again and got my connecting flight in HOU moved back until 6:20.
And we had a nice tailwind.

My airbnb host is picking me up from the airport too.

So I had a msy to ewr that was canceled. Then the same flight again canceled today. A two hour delay and multiple changes.

BUT we got row 7 in a 737 Max.
I cannot reach my bag with my feet even fully stretched out.

Sorry you had a rough day but glad you made it the same day as expected

I haven't been on row 7 of a max yet but always go for the extra legroom seats. Also really nice of your host to pick you up!

Directs out of MSY? I fly very often and just suck it up and realize I'm laying over in ATL or IAH most times. Other than Chicago and New York.

As for the train out of EWR, you first have to ride that awful monorail that goes 3mph. The train downtown after is very nice. Compare that to LGA where you need a ten minute cab ride to the Subway at Ditmars, then a ride downtown. It's about the same hassle, but LGA is a far nicer and smaller airport.

As for direct comparison of airports, EWR can EHBD. LGA is not too bad.
