If you're a regular or live in SA, then yes, it loses its appeal. But for a first time visit, it's a nice setup. Plenty of bars & restaurants. As someone else mentioned, it has a good vibe. For a one off visit, there is nothing wrong with barhopping up & down the Riverwalk. I would recommend.
It's just a ditch with a bunch of chain restaurants along it. Who wants to bar hop between Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Joe's Crab Shack, Saltgrass Steakhouse, Rainforest Cafe, and Dick's Last Resort

You'd be going here for the ambience, not because it has the best food.
100% agree with this! It gets old when you've been a lot. But you should go! Boudro's is pretty good. Paesano's is decent Italian. Republic of Texas burgers are ok. Please, please, please do not go to the Riverwalk for Mexican food. The places there are just not that good.

I really disagree with the "just a ditch" comment. It's really cute, quaint, and somewhat charming. There are a lot of bars along the Riverwalk that are not these places. I also think it's worth the cheesy boat ride. It's really pretty by the La Mansion hotel and you might even see a wedding on wedding island. There are some cool tile artwork spots as well. I just wouldn't spend a whole day there or go there every night. But one night? It's fun to see.

Agree. We walked up and down it and were overwhelmingly underwhelmed and didn’t stop anywhere as we try to avoid chain restaurants. Pearl District was much better.
We went to Oasis for breakfast tacos which was really good.
You can explore the caverns which is a cool way to spend a day. The Zoo is okay.
San Antonio was so damn hot! Hope you have decent weather. Not much to it IMO though.

What’s the go to spot for Mexican?
For me it's Rosario's on St. Mary's St. The mole' is great. Fish taco's are on point as is the house salsa.

The "just a ditch" thing was a thinly veiled Charles Barkley reference. Boudro's is good, I think I mentioned it upthread and on the riverwalk along with the Esquire. Go to Boudro's for dinner and walk to Esquire for a drink and you'll see all the riverwalk you need to see

La Fonda on Main. Best meal we had there easily, cool spot too.
