Going for work for a few days. Trying to decide if there's anything interesting enough to go a few days early and take the wife. Looking online, it appears to be another big city, which I do not typically enjoy very much. Anyone been recently and think otherwise?

I've never been to Toronto, but would love to see it.

The Blue Jays are pretty good this year and that time of year will be a playoff push- go check out a game at the old Skydome

Just left Toronto this afternoon, currently on a flight home. We did 2 nights there after spending a couple of days in Niagara Falls. We typically enjoy big cities, but found Toronto to be a little underwhelming. We had 2 good dinners, but found the rest of the city to be a little underwhelming. Visited some places that are on lists of "things to do in Toronto," but, like I said, left feeling a little underwhelmed. Places like Chinatown, Distillery District, St. Lawrence Market and Yonge-Dundas Square just left a little to be desired. Admittedly, we didn't do a ton of research about places to see because Niagara was the focus of the trip. I don't have a big desire to go back after the last 2 days.

I disagree, personally. My MIL side of the family all lives in Toronto, so I've gotten to know it quite a bit over the years. Was just there a couple weeks ago.

Like Chicago (where we currently live), Toronto is very neighborhood-centric. Where you went can get pretty damn touristy and, like you said, you leave feeling a bit underwhelmed. It's stuff you can knock out in a single day, but you absolutely have to check off some neighborhoods - that's the lifeblood of Toronto and where most eat/drink. Kensington Market, Trinity-Bellwoods, and Little Italy, for example, have a ton of bars and restaurants, including Quetzal for dinner, Hanmoto for bites and a drink, Bellwoods for an open air brewery, and Bar Pompette for a nightcap. If you likes walks and green spaces, head over to Don Valley, which is a big system of parks/trails, or High Park.

Admittedly, a lot of Toronto's hotels are centralized, so I understand why it could be tough to get around without a ton of research. There's a lot to do, though.

About the ONLY worthwhile thing in/around Toronto is the Niagra area...well worth the trip ! Toronto itself is a boring spread out MEGA city full of hipsters...avoid it !

I was in Toronto for a conference a few years ago, and I thought it was pleasant enough, but I didn't really feel like it was a tourist attraction in and of itself. It's not a city that I have any particular desire to return to.

frick. No. I have a friend from Winnipeg (let that sink in) that would rather eat tree bark than live in Toronto. And for sure don't stay at the Marriott that was in the dome. Nobody there, but I still ended up walking to left field (elevators at home plate) because Canadians hate Mericans.
