I'll be flying to Cologne, Germany on Thursday. My aunt lives in the area and I'm going with my dad and brother for her 70th birthday. We'll have about 4 days or so after the party and are looking at things to do in Cologne and the surrounding area.

Oktoberfest was discussed but we'd rather stay near Cologne due to limited time. Any suggestions?

not germany's prettiest city but it's very centralized with tons of stuff to do - cathedral, riverbank, and huge pedestrian area that's like a mile long.

Take a tour of the cathedral. There are some tours in English. Very interesting.

The area around the Cathedral is nice. Take a walk along the river walk and try some German food and beer.

*Koln

Definitely visit the church, because the interior is gorgeous. There are a few shopping centers around, there and some restaurants. If you like Gyro's make sure you try a Doner Kabab. The Museum Ludwig has a lot of cool art as well.

You could also try to do a tour down the Rhein. That area has is filled with castles, and amazing views.

I think we're planning on doing this at least one day. Looks like there are some castles and wineries to check out. And yes I know the Germans spell it "Koln"

So I filed a dispute with my United Mileage Card, and they gave me tempeorary credit back for the $600. Hopefully the booking company doesn't try to fight back. I ended up using my remaining United miles to buy a ticket. I actually got a solid deal on it, so the situation could've been much worse.

You'll need it after doing the all of the stairs in the cathedral. Narrow and felt like forever. Someone mentioned get a doner. Def do it. First time I had a gyro was over there and they're pretty much all great. As is the currywurst. There was a small restaurant right near the cathedral and the waiters were all dicks. Can't remember the name of it.

Nurburgring race track. Less than hour an half away from Cologne. They do offer rental race cars near the track.
