I wouldn’t say you “need” to go to Regina’s for pizza. It’s fine, but nothing to freak out over or go out of your way to get.

If you’re in the north end at lunchtime, I would recommend getting a slice from Galleria Umberto on Hanover St. instead. Very small, super old school place. Just buy a slice of Sicilian and an Arancini. Cash only and only open for lunch.

As for speakeasies, there’s one at downtown crossing called Yvonne’s. Go sit at the bar there. In Somerville you have back bar. And there’s a new place called Caveau that looks awesome but I haven’t been yet. Owned by the same folks as Yvonne’s

I think we are headed there again this September, last time we only spent a day and half in Boston before heading to the Maine coast. Going to spend more time in Boston this time, SWA had non stop from Austin to Boston for $279 round trip the other day. We did hit Frank Pepe's and Regina's while there and Regina's is the best pizza I've ever had, and history of the place is pretty special.

Very much appreciate advice on fun things to do this July 4 in Boston with two boys, age 9 and 5. We are going to Red Sox/Rangers on July 5. They are more sports nuts than American history nuts, if that matters. Thoughts on a great sportsbar to watch the game on July 4 are also appreciated. Staying at the Westin Copley Place, but willing to travel.

Thank you AbitaFan08 and others for this wonderful thread.

Nah, Boston isn’t really known for either of these things.

You’ll be limited on sports since colleges will be out and the only professional team playing will be the Sox (maybe MLS is playing? I don’t know)

Obviously the Freedom Trail is a great historical experience for your kids. With kids that are actually interested I would say do a guided tour - I usually advise self-guided. Bring them to the Public Garden and do a swan paddle boat - they will love it.

If you can get to Fenway early (very early) on July 4th, you can sit at the bleacher bar that looks into the outfield and watch the game live and on tv at the same time.

July 4th weekend is incredibly busy here, as you can imagine.

Figured I would put this here, but I have 2 rain check vouchers for a Whale Watching cruise if anyone wanted them. Went last November and didn't see anything so they gave us the rain check when we got off the boat. Good till the end of the year.

@Abitafan08 The wife and I are planning on a Boston trip late November. I've done my reading through your OP and it's a great guide. Do you have any updated recs or are the recs in the OP still your go tos?

Also, looking to catch the Oklahoma- LSU game while I'm there, any recs on where to watch?

Thanks again for this awesome thread!

Heading up middle of next week for Sox game, conference, and to visit some family. Was hoping not to see 80 but weather still looks great.

Looking for something different for dinner. From quick google, maybe Sugidama, Celeste or Cicada? Not sure why I keep getting places in Somerville.

Maybe sit at the bar, not formal but not overly concerned with price.

Also, someone mentioned rooftop drinks somewhere in the Seaport (where I’m staying) but I didn’t write it down and can’t find on map. Any suggestions?

Btw, I’m tentatively planning to go to Dillons (UA alumni bar) for the Wisconsin game if you want to come root against the Tide surrounded by Bama fans…

Because Somerville has lots of restaurants and is a pretty cool part of Boston. We usually spend a fair amount of time there when in Boston.

Any thoughts on those three places or otherwise? I’m in the Seaport but don’t mind taking an Uber. Also looking at Peach Farm or Shojo.

Sorry man, I’ve been traveling and not paying attention.

I actually don’t have experience with any of those restaurants so can’t help there but happy to give other suggestions if you’d like! One that comes to mind in the seaport is Woods Hill. Great spot.

The rooftop at Envoy is a nice place to have a cocktail so that’s a good pick since you’re staying in the seaport.

All good. I like that suggestion. Definitely client option next time I’m up here. And may give it a shot tonight.

Any thoughts on Asian or ethnic? On my own tonight. If not, I may hit up something random and post a review.

Saw the Sox with a walk off homer in the 10th Wed night. Had a great night at the park.

And the rooftop at the Envoy was closed for private event. Ended up getting drinks on patio bar/restaurant behind the Intercontinental. Very nice.

Then to Southie for a fundraiser at a sports bar. Good stuff.
