Not what I would call good surfing. Paddle boarding yes. You want to surf head to Navare, Portugal. 
Therre is good snorkeling and diving and if you go at the right time of year you can swim with the whales.

It has a private beach. You cannot swim in the water but a beautiful beach with calm water is a 2 minute walk away.

Just got back from IM, spent a week there and had a great time. Stayed in a house on south end of island, I could do without ever going back to the downtown area. It's a zoo especially Fri - Sun and the constant chirping from the store owners gets old quick. The south end is awesome, laid back, great food from high end to taco carts. We'll be back, Holbox is also on the list.

If you like all inclusive Mia reef.
I got an airbnb lady time in the south. Location was great. The sixth floor with no elevator was not.
But it had an amazing view.
It was only $70 a night though.
