Stowe VT and the Berkshires april 2024

we are road tripping from providence and back Sunday 4/7-14 thru Stowe VT (eclipse) and thru the Berkshires back to providence ending 4/14
any tips on eats/drinks/shite to do around Stowe and places to stay/shite to do in western MA would be much appreciated. We like rural, outside, music, good food, museums, hiking etc
Also any thoughts on what the weather is likely to be?

This is a link to a Travel Board post about VT and western MA from last fall. We were in sw VT and western MA in the fall of 2022. We have a neighbor that lived in Pittsfield, MA for about 20 years and she encouraged us to visit.

If you happen to find yourself near Battleboro, VT and you are looking for a place to eat I would check out the Vermont Country Deli.

We just got sandwiches for lunch but they were made with very fresh bread. It was really good.
In Lee we ate at 51 Park Restaurant & Tavern because a relative of our friend, who lived there years ago, owns it. It's an old house that was converted. We had pizza but they had other types of food and a bar.
When we were there I didn't know you could tour Tanglewood, it's near Lenox, MA. I assumed it was only open when they had concerts but that's incorrect.

we flew SW from MSY to Orlando then providence, picked up my daughter and drove to Stowe yesterday afternoon. It’s 50 degrees, bright sunshine (eclipse should be incredible) and thick snow on the ground.
Today we are staying in Stowe village and hanging at the alchemist for the eclipse. Hen of the woods tonite for dinner. Tomorrow we are hiking to a falls nearby then going to von trapp for snowshoeing and a maple tour. Wednesday we are going dog sledding, then heading out of town with a stop at Ben and Jerry’s for the tour
So after that we are open until Friday, weather looks sketchy. I was thinking maybe we post up in Woodstock VT for wed/Thu nights it looks like a cool place. Then back to providence for the weekend

I always say New Hampshire is the Alabama of the northeast. Not a compliment.

alchemist had a huge outdoor party with food, a band, jugglers and acrobats, fire eaters and dancers and heady topper on tap

Alchemist has come a really long way.
They always had good beer, but when they built their current location they could only give you a free sample of their beers, you’d buy your cans, and leave.
Before that, you couldn’t even go to their site. We would quite literally wake up at the arse crack of dawn, wait in a gas station parking lot for the delivery truck’s first stop of the day, and follow it from stop to stop because each place had a 1-pack limit per person.
Good times.

Thanks for the update. If the stars align right we're going back to the northeast again this Fall; hopefully we will make it farther north this year.
We did a Michigan, including the UP, and Minnesota fall foliage tour last year. That was great too but I don't think we have ever hit it just right in the northeast. Want to try at least one more time.

hen of the wood last night was a top 5 meal and the only one in recent memory where the dessert course (lemon ricotta cheesecake and a sheep’s milk cheese course) was the star of the show. Drinks at pro-pig beforehand
Today we hiked up to a waterfall thru the snow right outside of Stowe, then spent all day at the von trapp farm. The girls saw and petted all the farm animals, we hiked to thru the sugar maples and watched the syrup being made, then got beers and snacks at the brew house which is likely the nicest, and best, brewery I’ve ever visited. The beers are world class
Tomorrow we are going dog sledding up on the mountain, and then working our way south towards Woodstock. The weather has been postcard perfect (it changes tomorrow)

I’m a massive hen of the wood fan. There’s another really nice meal that rivals it at a place called Michael’s on the Hill if you have time and can get a reservation.

looked at that. We are gonna stay close and go to doc ponds. I heard it was pretty good too

Doc Ponds is an absolute must. Make sure you get a pint of Hill Farmstead Edward.
We like to go to Stowe once or twice a year because it’s such an easy drive. Went back in November so we are due for another trip - reading this thread has me itching to get in the car and go now.

dogsledding up in Eden was incredible, a once in a lifetime experience. Each day here has better better than the last
we drove back thru Waterbury and had lunch at pro-pig, excellent. The drive from there to Woodstock thru the river valley, national forest and the little towns was great and a trip highlight
At a B&B in Woodstock now, rainy day but beautiful. Tomorrow we head back to providence for the weekend
