Go down to Calle Ocho and hit up Ball & Chain and Sanguiche. That ought to kill some time and not have you running all over the place. But lots more spots. Cafe La Trova is also worth a visit but assume baseball game is at night, takes that out of play somewhat.

At the risk of sounding nit-picky, what does "a day" mean? Will you be waking up that morning in Miami? What time is the game? Just wondering whether we're talking a full 9-10 hour day, or just a few hours.

I'd second Cafe Versailles for lunch or breakfast.

If you're a history guy (or just appreciate really cool historic homes) the Vizcaya is worth investigating.

Coral Gables is a nice area. A fairly walkable area full of solid bars/shops/restaurants. That's where my wife and I always stay when we visit Miami.

I'd ignore South Beach (and really the entire Miami Beach area in general). It gets a lot of publicity, but it's a hassle to get to, and not worth it in my opinion.

You won't be too far from Coconut Grove. It's a fun little neighborhood*. I used to enjoy Greenstreet's and The Jaguar.

*disclaimer: I haven't been in a decade or so.

When we returned from a cruise we had hours before flying home we got on a group tour thing. The only place I can still remember we saw was the motel where they shot Scarface. Different paint but the front of the motel was clear as day.

This. Great spot if you like Art Deco and people watching.

Was JUST in Miami.

Either hang out in South Beach in the Washington Avenue area (the beach was nice and ate at Esquina Cubana which had the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had and a coffee at Cortadito which was stupid good)

OR

Little Havana. I love Little Havana. Depending on the time, went to Ball & Chain for music/drinks and ate at Old's Havana which was incredible too. My dad has a cousin that lives there who recommended Versailles which I'll go to next time.
