Heading to Colorado in a few weeks to hike. We’ve narrowed it down to staying in one of these two locations. Any advantages to one over the other? Just looking to hike all day and drink beer, chill and relax at night. Have plenty of Hilton / Hyatt / IHG points to stay free at either location. We will definitely be stopping at outer range to drink and stock up on beer on the way in.

More dining and drinking options in Breck.

If it’s just one or the other I’d definitely stay in Breck. I’ve stayed in Silverthorne to ride the epic resorts in the area and that was most of a financial decision because it was last minute. Silverthorne is a nice town but there nothing special about it. Breck is at the base of some beautiful mountains.

Stay in Breck. Do a day trip to Silverthorne if you wish.

Breck for sure. I loved the hike along the continental divide just south of town. Dining options are better in Breck too.

Both are fine and you will have to drive 10-30 minutes to most hikes from both locations. Brek has fun town vibe, Silverthorn likely cheaper so your call.

Angry James brewery was very nice on a beautiful Summer day in Silverthorne.

Outer Range in Frisco (West of Silverthone, north of Breck) has some excellent brews available. I really enjoyed their beer
