When all this is over and we can travel within the US freely again, I'd like to take the family (Wife and I, two teenagers, two 3 year olds).
Driving distance from Louisiana. 4-5 days
We like lakes, woods, beaches, rafting, tubing, museums, zoos, good eats, good drinks.

Also have a party barge/pontoon boat that I don't mind hauling.

TIA

Friend,

DC has the country's best museums.
New Orleans and New York have the best food.
The Florida panhandle has the best beaches.
Eastern Tennessee and Colorado have the best rafting.
Western North Carolina and the Pacific NW have the best woods hiking. I have never been to the Arkansas lands, but I suspect the Ozarks also has nice hiking.

Yours,

Tons of lakes within reach in Arkansas, Texas, etc. for you to rent a cabin on.

I would look at cabin in the N Georgia/E Tennessee area. Lots of hiking, rafting, etc. Beautiful area of the country.

All of these recommendations provide great, clean lakes, woods, mountains, trails, etc. T

hey are also readily accessible to larger cities for more activities (Nashville, Knoxville, Tri-Cities, etc.)

Center Hill Lake - A little over a hour east of Nashville.

Douglas Lake About 30 minutes east of Knoxville

Norris Lake - About a hour or so north of Knoxville

Watauga Lake - 45 minutes east of Johnson City, TN

South Holston Lake - Close to Bristol and the TN/VA state line

Some people enjoy watching their kids have fun, explore etc.

Beautiful pictures. Haven't been to some of them. My vote would be to also consider Dale Hollow if OP is going to Tennessee.

Perfect then,
find you a State or National Park, there are many that have CABINS w electricity, BRBQ pit and facilities and are by a lake.
In TX I have done TEXOMA (Eisenhower Park)) multiple times.
Now for the 2 / 3 year olds ???...you may need better advice.
Almost 927 miles of shore line TX/OK... for fishing ASK at the park, many waive the license requirement if you stay at the park, if not, get a "TEXOMA LICENSE" not TX or OK.
