Taking the family next weekend. Kids (8&11) and wife will go to the space center Saturday while I’m at a meeting. We’ll have Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday to explore. Probably going to hit up Straight to Ale at some point. Amy recs regarding restaurants or fun things to do are appreciated. TIA

HSV

Straight to Ale is in a neat complex. The food at STA is great as well as Yellowhammer which is across the lawn. Yellowhammer just opened their expansion last week so I haven't checked it out yet. Great place for kids too, lots of activities.

Downtown is a very pretty area. Green Bus Brewing, OTBX, and Keegans Pub are all great to grab a beer at.

Stars and Strikes just opened off University Drive, it is laser tag, bowling etc. If y'all are into golf X-Golf is by STA. Hiking on Monte Sano, Galaxy of Lights at the Botanical Gardens, Pints and Pixels downtown has good food and beer with old school arcade games. U.G White and Harrison Bros are neat stores downtown.

greenwave's recs are spot on. I would add Sam and Greg's downtown as a great place to take kids. Below the Radar, also downtown, is family friendly, has a good beer selection, and good food. Also check out Lowe Mill. It is near Straight to Ale and downtown. Old cotton mill turned into an arts area. Pizelle's chocolates is located there and is really good.

Bridgestreet is a nice outdoor shopping area with lots of restaurants.

If you'll are into hiking go check out The Walls of Jericho. It's about a 1 hour drive NE of Huntsville. It's not real strenuous and you can make the whole trip/hike in 1/2 day.

I love to hike but don’t think we’re going to be able to fit it in this trip.

Have fun-Huntsville is an underrated city. It's not real big but I enjoyed living there for a year.

Check out Monte Sano park just east of the city. You can be there in 10 minutes from downtown.

I would also read a little about Wernher von Braun. He has a very interesting past before coming to the U.S. I don't recall the Space and Rocket Center diving into that.

What would you choose between Connors, grill 29, commerce kitchen, and 1892?

hmmm I prefer Connors for lunch.

1892 usually has Snake Handler on draft. Never had a bad meal at Grill 29 (haven't been in a while), Commerce, or 1892. Ask for a booth if you go to Commerce.

Thanks

Just leaving Jackson. We’ll probably hang out around campus 805 tonight and hit up one of those other restaurants tomorrow night.

Ended up dropping by main channel brewery in guntersville on the way up and having Mexican delivered from next door. Main channel is a really cool spot run by really nice people if anyone is ever in the area.

I think Commerce and 1892 east are leading candidates for dinner one night. I think we’ll also try Sam and Greg’s the other night we are here

ETA: Spent the afternoon at campus 805 (straight to ale and Yellowhammer). Really cool place. We went to dinner at 1892 east which was fantastic. We both got the beer tenderloin. Ended up at pints and pixels to watch the end of the LSU game and play some frogger and donkey kong—kids had a blast.

Had a blast

Grabbed lunch at below the radar yesterday and then headed back to Yellowhammer, salty nut, and straight to ale. Had dinner at connors last night because it was close to where we were staying (Westin). On our way home now
