I don't know if I necessarily agree.
I definitely don't.
In my experience, the boarding process has been the most organized and easy to follow than any other domestic carrier where people are all standing blocking the lanes to board the plane. Nobody knows what group is going to be called first so everyone just stands around and blocks the walkways, you can't hear the gate agents, first class is called like third or fourth and the lanes are never really numbered to match all of the boarding groups.
Open seating aside, the SW boarding process is definitely the smoothest and most easily understood.
Im hearing impaired and can RARELY hear gate agents, with SW I don't pre-board. I always add the disability to my booking / boarding pass for TSA and such but even when I have a first class or business class ticket with other carrier, I do normally pre-board if it's just me or me and my daughter. Unless I stand right by the gate agent it's hard figure out who's being called to board and when.

Early bird has turned into such a scam
Agree! I never do Early Bird and fly out of Hobby, so it's pretty busy. I set an alarm and always check in the first minute that I can. I always end up in high A or low B and have no issues getting an aisle and overhead space.

The family boarding between A and B is the bigger problem to me. There are families all the time with kids obviously older than 6 taking advantage of it and the gate agents never turn them away and even let extended family board with them. Good luck if you are traveling to a kid location like Orlando. Assigned seats can’t come soon enough
If you have 1 kid younger than 6, both parents get to board with them. Then you can't have the other kids alone without a parent. Therefore, they all board.
I love it when there are a lot of families. I'm often by myself and it pretty much ensures that there will be an open aisle. The families often sit together and take up middle seats.

11 pre boards on my flight to Nola, this is getting ridiculous. Flight attendants showed up late so started boarding 10 minutes late even though the plane got here 45 minutes ago. About my usual SW experience. Whoever mentioned Orlando airport its even worse up there

People in wheelchairs seem to fly Southwest more than any other airline I’ve been on. They all preboard with the family.

And somehow they are magically cured when they get to their destination. It's a MIRACLE!!
My last SW flight from Chicago to MSY had 9 people in wheelchairs and their families preboarding and none needed a wheelchair to get off the plane.

Yes I’m fine with that situation but I routinely see them let the grandparents and other adults in addition with the parents board during family boarding. Also allowing families with the youngest kid obviously over 6 happens all the time as most SW gate agents are too scared to upset a customer or call someone out. I just wish they enforced their own policies

There was a white couple just ahead of us in line who had C tickets. I thought they would not be allowed to board ahead of us but they were. There was also a group of young black women who had C tickets on that same plane who were allowed to board ahead of us
I fly SWA almost exclusively and have never seen them allow C boarders to board before A boarders. Ever. I’ve seen them send people back.

I expected that too but it didn’t happen.

When I commuted from Houston to Dallas and back (day trips), the pre boarding wheelchair crew was always extensive in the morning. On the way back from Dallas, nobody was in a wheelchair.
Nice employees, but there are multiple reasons I go out of my way not to fly with them, and the trashy crowd they attract is a big one. Maybe most of them have sloughed off to Spirit and Frontier?
