Say around mid to late October?

Sept/Oct is very busy - but it’s not busy as early in the morning in cooler months like it is May through August when so many families are vacationing. the closer to Halloween the slower it gets as temps are already dipping below freezing at night. If you plan to make a day of it can be fun by bringing lunch, make stops at the home sites or churches . If you came in the dead of winter when it’s not busy you will not see much wildlife and there are few ranger programs because staffing drops in fall. People think they can come to Cades Cove at Noon and be back in Gatlinburg to get dressed for a 5:00 dinner reservation.

If you are interested or your kids would like to do things like catch butterflies and tag them or watch bird banding in the park I can point you in the right direction.

We did the hayride through Cades Cove because it was a large group of us and we didn’t want to have to worry about driving and trying to spot things so we were able to just enjoy the ride. It was so nice and our whole group was able to be together. Not many people know about it when we mention it.

People love the horse back riding/carriage rides on the horse trails.

I don't know who'd attempt to walk that whole 11 mile +stops Cade's Cove loop.

Sounds like a great opportunity to run it.

Questions about Cades Cove

Answer about Cade's Cove--stay away!

Now it's just my opinion, but here's my story. Everyone told me to go. So I went. Bumper to bumper, boring scenery. Luckily my GPS gave me a bumpy mountain road and I found my way out in the first 1/3 or so of the the loop.

That being said, have fun in the Smokys!

That's what I was afraid of. May have to rethink that idea.

Go the first week of November. We did last fall and traffic wasn't too bad and leaves were still gorgeous. Rich Mountain road was amazing.

The first time you do cades cove it'll probably take you a majority of the day cause you'll want to stop several times at lots of cabins. It can usually be done much quicker on future trips cause you've already seen most stuff and are just look at scenery and for wildlife.

If you want to hike a trail like Abraham's, go early to beat the traffic.
