Anyone has ever taken 7, 10, or12 day Princess Cruise from Boston or NY early September or October to New England and Canada? Any recs? Hope to see early fall changes. Was water rough at that time?

I took an NCL cruise there once September 20-something (don’t remember exact date) from NYC.
I did not see any fall foliage. Not one single leaf was turning colors. Not even in Halifax. Those coastal areas turn much later than interior parts. Probably mid to third week of October, but I’m not sure you will ever find good color around coastal towns. If fall foliage is high on your list, I suggest a trip to Vermont and particularly the White Mountains in New Hampshire around Columbus Day because that is spectacular.
Also, these Canada/NE cruises at that time of year are quite popular with older folks. I would say the average age on my cruise was 70-75. Not sure if that is what you are looking for or not, but the atmosphere is pretty much the polar opposite of a Caribbean cruise.
I loved Princess, though, on our Alaska cruise and would love to sail them again one day if I can find an itinerary that appeals to me.
Edited to add I don’t remember the water being rough at all.

I loved sailing on princess but agree no way you’re seeing the leaves turn in early September

Some friends took a fall trip 5 or 6 years ago there and they had some bad weather; had to miss one stop.
I don’t know if it was Sep or Oct.

Thanks for all of your recs. Will rethink it and may consider flying and driving the area. But sure love Princess cruises, especially after my Alaska cruise/land trip to Denali and Yukon.

I have taken that cruise on Princess. We were on it when Les Miles was fired. We left from Brooklyn. We went in late September / early October. We had a great time but we missed the peak of the fall foliage season by a couple of weeks. For that, later in October is probably best. The cruise ended in Quebec City. We stayed a few extra days there at the Fairmont Chateau Frontiac Hotel which is the hotel that looks like a castle at the top of the hill. We loved Quebec City. It is like a neighborhood in Paris.

I agree, Quebec City is enchanting. If you are going on a longer cruise that ends there and you spend a couple of days, it is worth missing peak fall foliage. Make that a separate land trip.
For our fall foliage trip we flew from MSY to Albany, NY, rented a car and immediately drove into Vermont. We spent five days exploring Vermont and part of New Hampshire. Best fall foliage you can ever hope to see and Columbus Day usually coincides with peak in most places. Then we drove back to Albany and took a day trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown before flying back the next day. Great colors on that part of the trip too.

Thanks for sharing your trip recommendations. Making fall trip separately is probably best. Besides, get to take more trips. Doc friend of mine goes to see mansions of Newport while visiting his kids in school up there.
