Planning on going the week of March 20-27th. Taking our 8 year old daughter too. Wanted to do a couple days in Phoneix area then head to Sedona for few days and then Grand Canyon. Is this doable in a week? Mostly stay at resorts etc. Our 10th anniversary is the 26th so thought that would be cool to go to the grand canyon that day and stay since we can't go to Italy like we planned

We did almost exactly that two years ago......flew into Phoenix and stayed at the Fairmont Princess in Scottsdale a couple of days.....then drove up to the Grand Canyon and stayed at El Tovar a couple of days....then drove to Sedona and stayed at the Enchantment Resort in Sedona a few days.

Really liked the drive from Scottsdale to the Grand Canyon in one day.....was really cool to see the different scenery as we went up in elevation. In Scottsdale you see nothing but cactus, then you start seeing small bushes, then a few trees, then big trees as you continue to climb.

Really liked the Fairmont Princess and Enchantment.

El Tovar is a dump.

May be too cold when you are there but Slide Rock Park outside of Sedona was cool in the summer.

It was that bad? Is there someplace else to stay up there

Wasn't impressed with Phoenix, so I'd say skip it and spend the week in Sedona and Grand Canyon. One night, 2 days, is likely plenty at GC, unless you're really into hiking.

I did not do Scottsdale though, so that may be worth it.

It'll definitely be too cold in March. We were there in June and the water at Slide Rock and Grasshopper Point was barely tolerable.

That's easily doable. Really no reason to stay more than one night at Grand Canyon as mentioned. Honestly I think you are better off just doing a day trip there and spending another night in Sedona.

Check out the West Fork of Oak Creek trail just north of Sedona when you visit, it's an excellent and not too crazy long hike.

There is also good wine tasting in the Cottonwood and Page Springs/Cornville areas just south of Sedona if you are in to that.

Think we are gonna stay in Scottsdale for about 4 days then head to Sedona for four. Probably just do day trip to Grand Canyon.

Any resort recommendations for Sedona

I’d bypass Phoenix altogether and spend that time in Sedona. I could spend a week there.

In Sedona, eat at Elote and Mariposa. You should also hit up cottonwood and walk around Main Street. A cool little town

Take the helicopter ride of the GC. It’s amazing. I think it was like $200 a seat for ride to the north rim and back. There’s a 300+ option for a longer ride that follows the Colorado river.

Very dated......small room, tiny bathroom. No where to put toiletries or anything like that. For a family of four we needed more space.

Restaurant was disappointing.

We love the Grand Canyon and will be back.....but we’ll stay somewhere else

We loved Enchantment and will be going back soon.

Pricey....but you get what you pay for.

FWIW this describes most of the National Park hotels in my experience. You pay for the location and that's sometimes pricey.

Concur, and if you can only do one do Elote.

A good lunch spot in Sedona is Tortas De Fuego. Amazing street tacos and traditional Mexican food. They did have some Tex Mex stuff as well.

Elote and mariposa both look great. Only issue is our 8 year old is tagging along and is a very picky eater. Maybe have to feed her before we go

Yes. I would second this as well. The tortas are great

If you like wine, hit up DA vineyard. Their winery is awesome and is suitable for an 8-year-old kid. They have a giant swing in the front and have a bunch of goats

The wife and I went did a Phoenix/Sedona/Flagstaff/GC trip for our honeymoon a few years ago. I regret spending 2 nights in Phoenix. If I went again I’d go straight to Sedona. Plenty of hikes that are doable for the entire family. Absolute beautiful area. I’ll throw another recommendation out there for Tortas de Fuego in Sedona. I could’ve eaten there for every meal.

If you decide to head towards Flagstaff, take the scenic road up that way that features the Oak Creek viewpoint. But don’t go if you’re afraid of heights because you’ll get to a series of switchbacks where my wife began freaking out . It’s not too bad though.

Going to Sedona (VRBO in Oak Creek) for 6 nights in May with 1 night in Old Town Scottsdale. We will take a day trips to the GC and Flagstaff . Rented a jeep for off road trails near Sedona cant wait. More restaurant recommendations are appreciated!

Visited Sedona and Grand Canyon last September for the first time. IMO, GC only needs a day. After awhile everything started looking the same. But it is definitely a must see.

Sedona on the other hand was fantastic. Take several days to explore there!
